Description: From Ken Burns' Mystery Men To coincide with the nation's bicentennial, a contest was run throughout the stable of S.U. titles. In autumn of 1975, up and coming editor Calvin #Dutch# Frady convinced his father, S.U. Comics owner and publisher Colonel Beauregard Culpepper Frady #ret.# to jump on the vanguard of an exciting new trend. In January of 1976, a promotion was unveiled to give away 500 hand-painted S.U. Comics Pet Rocks by July 4th. Although the contest was a resounding success, many of the awarded pet rocks were lost, stolen or disposed of by the U.S. Postal Service. The U.S. Postal Service cited the S.U. pet rock promotion as the leading cause of delays, worker injuries and equipment failure for the second half of 1976.

Description: From Ken Burns' Mystery Men ...at which point The Colonel stormed out of his office, grabbed a random package from the submission rejection pile, demanded bourbon and disappeared back into his sanctum. An hour later he re-emerged, handed his senior editor a sheaf of papers and shouted: "Just run the damned thing! before he walked slumped shouldered to the elevator and departed. Tempus Omega did not appear in the issue beyond the re-edited cover. The Comics Code Authority approved the re-submitted issue of amateurish black and white pages without hesitation. Colonel Frady never forgave the CCA.

Description: From Ken Burns' Mystery Men After the much-publicized death of a young child by sealing herself in an abandoned fridge during a Civil Defence drill, a distressed Colonel Frady felt that children should be aware of such dangers and the inherent danger of panic itself. To this end, the Colonel himself penned the cautionary tale "Death Stalks The Halls of P.S. 178." "Death..." was a no-holds-barred warning to children, parents and educators about the very real collateral damage caused in a 'so-called' Cold War. The Comics Code Authority, however, flatly rejected the story and cover calling them: "...vulgar...', '...fear-mongering...' and '...Un-American...'. An irate, deflated Frady surrendered to the pressures of the CCA and pulled the issue. In its stead, Colonel Frady recycled the cover but substituted another story entirely.

Description: Tempus Omega Andy Warhol Lithograph 4' x 7' 1969 Originally purchased by billionaire Howard Hughes in 1970 as part of a large lot sale of modern art. Officially declared missing from Hughes collection in 1994. Re-emerged in 2009 as part of a private internet auction. Historical Note: Hughes is rumoured to have used the piece as a backdrop on which to project endless screenings of the motion picture "Ice Station Zebra". Although most experts assert that the rumour is apocryphal, it has helped swell interest in the piece and its sale beyond the conventional artistic community.

Description: From Ken Burn's Mystery Men From the Casinos of Maccau and the hard fought streets of Hong Kong, Calvin (Dutch) Frady raced Tempus Omega across the Pacific to New Orleans' steaming French Quarter and the Voodoo dens of Louisiana's deep bayou. Frady once again risked the ire of the Comics Code Authority with dark, smoky tales filled with jazz, voodoo, inter-racial romance and revenge. Frady later revealed that the cover of 'Voodoo Mama' was a veiled response to the Mego Toy Company's threat to pull the Tempus Omega action figure from its line to show their displeasure at Frady's unannounced, radical format changes.

Description: Golden Age villain Phobos: The Fear Master emerges from a decades long coma to strike out using nightmarish psychedelic drugs and cult religion. From Ken Burns Mystery Men SU continued the trend first started in the Time Rider story "The Trip" of using dynamic non-symmetrical panels and controversial subject matter to convey the sense of an altered state of consciousness. Although most readers embraced the changes in structure, many complained that the scene portrayed on the cover rarely, if ever, actually appeared in the book itself.

Moon Mission calamities and shifting poles replaced warring nations and nuclear weapons as the cause of nuclear winter and withering radiation.
