Question Wayne he's wearing the black jack on his costume right? I was just wondering about the history of it b/c I know the Union Jack is the flag but didn't know where the black jack came from? I've heard of it referred to as the Union Jack's evil twin before and it got me curious.

Well I did consider a normal Union Jack but I didn't what him to look like Captian Britian. So I simple just kept the white part of the flag.As for a Black Jack, to me a black jack is a small club/cosh used by the navy press gangs back in the 1800's.(ei to be 'blackjacked'is to be hit on the back of the head) But in Cornwell the national flag is a white cross on a black flag. Some of them still want to be recognised as a seperate country like Wales or Scotland but I'll never happen.(bit like Texas :D ) But if it did then the Union Jack would have to be changed to have black in it somewhere.
Also the Black Jack is another name for the Jolly Roger aka the Skull and Crossbones.

thanks for the history lesson Wayne, I'm sure what I heard was referring to Cornwell then. I searched for something on it online but came up empty handed. I appreciate the info.

I actually had my wife call her Nana in Manchester to find out and she didn't know either. I was familiar with different types of flags used by the British Imerial fleet, and given the history involved in Windrush's name I assumed it was a naval flag or something similar.

I had a search myself. Apperently Newcastle United football(soccer) club fans sometime have a Black n White union jack (their team colours are black n white) And one of the suppliers we have at the place I work have a black n white union jack as it's logo.
As for the naval connection it's very complicated when it come's to the 'Jacks' there are different types for different situations. Most stemming from Nelson's time.Used for signaling commands etc. The S.S. Imperial Windrush is not a Royal Navy vessel they're 'H.M.S.'(eg.the H.M.S.Hood ) A. 'S.S.' is a Merchant navy vessel (eg S.S.Titanic)

Wayne and 'styx, we need a better method to assemble artwork like this. How about we exchange emails and we can send pics back and forth. Maybe we could do an actual story. What do you fellas think??? If this sounds good drop me a line at The4Bonomos@aol.com
