Back on the drawing table! I just discovered Brenda Joyce died on July 4th, at 94; the name may not ring a bell if you're not a Tarzan fan, but she was the actress who replaced Maureen O'Sullivan as 'Jane', in Johnny Weissmuller's RKO Tarzan films, and was the first of five Janes in Lex Barker's five films as the Ape Man. A beautiful, athletic blonde actress, she first caught audience's attention as George Brent's love interest in 1939's "The Rains Came", and she was picked by Weissmuller himself to play his mate.
Joyce was never too excited by acting, though, and retired after "Tarzan's Magic Fountain", avoiding the press, and devoting her life to public service.
She was a pretty terrific person!
