Possible Bela Lugosi make-up tests for the original Robert Florey version of Frankenstein for Universal that was never produced. Apparently Jack Pierce made several versions of the monster, none of which Lugosi cared for. Florey and Lugosi were eventfully replaced by James Whale and Boris Karloff. This version is reminiscent of his later look in Island of Lost Souls for Paramount in 1932.
"He was made up to look like-- the Golem. He had a broad wig on, and polished, clay-like skin. He looked like something out of Babes in Toyland." Edward van Sloan, c. 1966
