My deepest condolences for your loss. I am so sorry to hear about Rin. It is definately a tragedy to lose someone you love, especially when it is your pet because our pets fullfill the roles as our children, best friend and medicine. "No therapy is better than the love of a pet". You were wrong about one thing though, Pets are our own personal superheroes because they make our world better. Please send my condolences to your family. :-(

Thanks, it's weird how losing a pet can feel like losing a friend especially when it's a pet that likes to be around people, and she did. Well the funny thing was she liked be around us, but other people scared her. I think whoever owned her first must have been mean to her. We got her at the pound. I don't know what happened to her before we got her, but she was skiddish around strangers. I'd talk to her and that dog would shake her head at me like she knew what I was saying. I always joked with my wife that Rin was answering no to everything I said. It's so sad when I go outside and expect her to be hanging around.

That's very sad, Tim. I know how it feels to lose a pet like that. Especially when its sudden instead of losing them from old age. This makes me think of my dog Zeke who died a very long time ago. He was a yellow lab golden retriever mix who I grew up with. The both of us were 13 when he died. He was incredibly loyal and he liked everybody. He was smart too. He was an outside dog, and I remember one time we had a really bad thunderstorm, and he got scared and scratched on the door. We let him inside, and ever since, every time it rained, he would scratch on the door and act terrified so that he could come in.
The poor fella had a tough life, having watched his brother get run over by a train, plus Zeke himself got hit by a car twice, and lived through it each time but the toll it took on his legs caused him a lot of pain throughout his life. The years keep going by and I still think about him a lot. He had a lasting affect on everyone in the family. We still keep his pictures up all over the house.

Rin would scratch at the door too if it got really bad outside. When we first got her we potty trained her and kept her in the house, but she was kind of a big dog and it seemed like all she wanted was to go outside all the time so we let her out, and you know how dogs get dirty and smelly so we got in the habit of just leaving her outside. Wished I kept her in all the time now of course.
It would be better if a person knew their dog was getting close to dying verses all of a sudden. You don't get a chance to pet them for the last time or anything.
Sounds like Zeke was like my dog in that he had human personality traits. The best dogs are the ones that like people better than other dogs. Some dogs would rather hang with people more than anything while other dogs just like to run around and get in trouble. I've got a Dalmation I have to keep tied up because he wants to run around and chase cars. He's not a bad dog, but he's very mischievous and stubborn as all get out.
I sure wish dogs didn't get on the road at all. Hard to train them to stay off of it. I've had dogs in years past get hit and the next day get right back on the road. Of course Rin really didn't get on the road much just when someone pulled in our driveway and backed out.

I know how to feel. Being an only child, we've always had dogs (all German Shepherds), and the last one we had we had to put down at a year old. I know this might sound weird, but she was like a friend, and sister to me in so many ways. It was hard. Im really sorry for your loss.
