In the trackless depths of eastern Virginia's Great Dismal Swamp a creature of nightmare rules. Stienman Petroleum has a contract for oil drilling in the area, but an apparently invulnerable Zombie smashes equipment and kills workers. The local populace blame the oil company for disturbing the Zombie's resting place. But the local Sheriff isn't buying the story, and sends for Doc Savage, along with Monk and Ham. What besides oil lurks beneath the murky waters of the Great Dismal Swamp; and can Doc survive a face to face meeting with the Zombie?
