Batman Begins Delivers
Batman Begins really delivers from start to finish. It's Batman for
grownups, but don't be mistaken because kids will love it to. At
least my twelve year old did. I've read another review that said a 8
year old had problems with the scary scenes, but I would venture to
guess that most kids would be okay. My whole family loved it. The
origin details may not be quite as enjoyable for non comic book
fans, but over all it's a good movie no matter if you've never even
looked at a Batman comic book.
Christian Bale is perfect for Batman and Bruce
Wayne. Going into the movie there's always a bit of skepticism over
the hype, but Bale is Batman. The anger and torment of his character
are right on the mark. The Batman scenes where he's beating the bad
guys and trying to get information are right out of a comic book. If
Batman was a real person this would be him.
The supporting characters the villains
included were excellent. We get to see Commissioner Gordon back when
he was only a sergeant. Liam Neeson is great. The Scare Crow played
by Cillian Murphy is the perfect Batman movie villain. You have to
love it when he says "The Batman". Michael Caine's Alfred
is perfect. You get a great sense of the character's love for Bruce
Wayne as perhaps almost a son or grandson, and his loyalty to
Wayne's father.
Most comic movie fans point to the first
Batman with Michael Keaton as the definitive movie Batman, but I
think that will change after seeing this movie. It's very likely
Bale will be identified with this character as much as Adam West
after a couple more movies.
The biggest difference in this movie is the
feeling you get from it. The other Batman movies at best were
enjoyable and exciting with great special effects, but this one hits
the kid inside. It makes you remember why you liked the character in
the first place and hits an emotional cord much the same way
Spiderman did.
The Batmobile is awesome! It's more like a
tank than anything. I'll admit I was a little wary of it at first
because I still like the classic Batmobile of the 1960's, but it
makes perfect sense that a guy taking on an entire city of
corruption would need something that can slam through walls and keep
going. Which brings me to another point of the movie. The car,
tools, story etc are such that you could see this actually existing
in the real world. You can tell that from start to finish that it
was well thought out. This is one you'll want to eventually own on
dvd when it's released!
