Fantastic Four is a Fantastic Fun Ride
Just saw the movie and have to say it was fun. It wasn't a rehash of
Spiderman, the X-men, or the Incredibles. It was a family of heroes
that made you like them. I've read comparisons to the Incredibles so
many times. It's better than the Incredibles. That was a good movie
it's own way, and it's part of my personal dvd library, but this
movie is better. It's a good family flick.
The movie doesn't follow the comic story line for line, and Dr.
Doom doesn't resemble the comic character that much. That being
said, the heart and soul of the Fantastic Four is here. The constant
arguing between Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm is here. The teamwork at
the end is right out of a comic book, and yes the love between Mr.
Fantastic and the Invisible Woman is there as well. You feel sad for
the Thing, but feel the exuberance of Johnny Storm as he revels in
his new found powers. Where movies like this have the slow scenes
for character development, this one keeps you entertained and
laughing most of that time. I will be completely honest, I loved the
Spiderman films, but you have to admit, some of the Spiderman 2
scenes were so so sad for Peter and gut wrenching you wanted to jump
off a bridge before he got to fight scenes. You have to laugh when
the Thing decides he has to kill the Human Torch. I won't tell you
what he does to him, but it's hilarious, and so is what Johnny does
to Ben right before he becomes the Thing.
I'm glad Michael Chiklis didn't want to have the Thing done
with cgi effects. His sacrifice wearing that hot suit was worth it.
The effects for the Torch were amazing. I just have to say that
stiffs like Roger Ebert are probably not going to have a good time,
but if you take your wife and kids you will probably not be
disappointed. If you're looking for some kind of grand enlightenment
go rent "Chariots of Fire" or something, but if you
want to have a fun time go watch this movie.
