I just finished watching the Justice League: The New
Frontier last night, and I enjoyed it. It was very retro and smart all the
way through.
Nice the way they managed to tell the story with a fairly modern pace, and
yet you feel transported to the 1950's right as the Silver Age is just
beginning. Hal
Jordan really stands out in this movie as the heroic test pilot. His
character involves some pretty intense action in this picture. Got to love
the historical details that are added in from the era from what's on
television, to the jets, the clothes, and even the hairstyles.
Be warned this is not a movie for little kids. There is
some language, and some pretty violent scenes. PG-13 rating should be
taken seriously.

I believe this is the first time
Batman's original
costume has ever been presented on film. Very cool, and I like the
explanation as to his change of costume and slight change to his
personality. Batman's voice was very tough and fit the era very nicely. It
was the kind of voice that filled a room and was almost spooky.

Silver Age
Superman was
everything you'd expect character wise, but I was slightly disappointed
when Superman got knocked down so easily in one particular scene. You
almost have to expect Superman's powers to be downplayed in a team story
though otherwise the rest of the superheroes don't have that much to do.

I'm not sure how crazy I was about
Wonder Woman.
Her character was shown as more of an authentic amazon type. She's
argumentative, violent, but of course inside she's still a hero. The
problem I have is I tend to want a Wonder Woman who can be strong yet
gentle at the same time like the
Lynda
Carter portrayal of Wonder Woman. Her WW was still very much feminine
yet very powerful at the same time. She was a true force for good. Still
this particular Wonder Woman wasn't something I hated. I just wasn't in
love with this version so to speak.

The
Martian
Manhunter story was very interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the
interaction between him and the Batman. I also liked the character of the
alien. His character like Superman's, the
Flash,
and Hal Jordan was portrayed in the classic heroic sense.
Other appearances include the
Blackhawks,
Adam Strange,
and Aquaman.
I did not have the opportunity to review the extras on
the
Justice League - The New Frontier (Two-Disc Special Edition) , but the
regular edition had an excellent documentary on the history of the
Justice League and the Justice Society. I loved the documentary as much or
more as the movie. You will too if you are a huge comic book fan.
