This is from a story in 1981 from Captain America 265-266.

Very ironic and ominous ain't it?

So long as the spirit of freedom burns bright in America's soul...Captain America will not die.  Sure was a lot different back in the 80's Cap books.

I like this panel a lot too.

So long as brave, free men live -- the eternal torch of liberty and justice shall never die. Now that's the Captain America I grew up reading. Not all this doom and gloom.

Here's the cover from the first part of the story issue 265

Cap really seems to get the best patriotic moments whenever he teams up with Spider-man for some reason. Remember the Civil War speech to Spider-man Cap made? http://captain-america.us/articles/civil-war.htm

With the death of Captain America it would seem that an iconic symbol of our country is gone, either permanently or temporarily(myself, I'm thinking temporarily). It does, however, make you stop and think about what our country stands for in the world. Cap has always stood for all that is good and right about America. His death is almost a commentary on how alot of those positive values seem to be dying in the present age. It makes you stop and appreciate the good things about us when you do see them.

I think there is a tendency these days to lash out against America by Americans and not just complain about a policy or a politician. I'm all for complaining about politicians and policies mind you, that's American. I just wish people remembered how great America is from her foundations, and still waved the flag with pride regardless of politics.
