Possible Spoilers
I say possible spoilers because while I don't want to give away too many specifics just giving a review sort of gives away the general direction of a movie.
As Superdude said about I Am Legend, after you see it you may not want to go right out and see it again. It's not a action slug fest all the way through, but having said that the movie is very interesting and sort of deep in a sci-fi kind of way.
The visuals are amazing it takes you into a hopefully impossible world that you will never see ,Lord willing' with a New York completely deserted except for flesh eating zombies. That sounds a lot more silly than the movie actually is, really. It's very intelligent and very serious in tone. Will Smith's acting is top notch.
The problem is it could have been better by my book, and I judge movies more on the enjoyment factor than the artistic factor. Here's the problem. It's too sad. Poor Will Smith's character is dragged through incomprehensible problems losing everyone and everything he ever loved.
Next and if you hate spoilers don't read this.
Major Spoiler*********
Why oh why does Hollywood always kill off the good guy in the end? Say we watch Will Smith movies to see an average guy defeat impossible odds. I don't care if it's aliens, or robots with an attitude. Will Smith always comes up with a plan.
In this movie he basically gives up at the end and commits suicide while saving the two humans, but still. He had machine guns everywhere till the end where all he can get his hands on is a hand grenade. Now come on! You know you can throw those things. You don't have to hold him in your hand while you charge the zombie monster.
This movie is so sad. It's like Old Yeller meets Zombies meets the Alamo. How depressing.
Still though it was a very amazing picture, and the whole time you just want to know how everything got that way. What destroyed civilization? After getting the answers it might not be as enjoyable watching the second time around, but who knows a year or two and I'll probably end up renting it, or finding it for 5 dollars somewhere, and then I'll add it to my movie collection.
