A lot of angry fans are up in arms about the new Spider-man One More Day storyline. Apparently Peter Parker makes a deal with the devil to save Aunt May which includes not ever having married Mary Jane.

I've only read part one so far. I got the scoop reading comments at comics2film.com http://www.comics2film.com/b/index.php?blog=20&title=one_more_day_one_less_reader&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

I'm just amazed they would do this. Sure it's interesting just for the reasons most people hate. Like how does it affect all the other story lines in Spider-man's past?

Here's the thing that I see as the biggest problem for me. What kind of man would give up his wife for anybody else in his family? Hello, and if you got to make a deal with the devil to get it done then it can't be right now can it.

Doing all you can by natural means to save a loved one is natural, but I can't believe Peter would go as far as revamping the course of history and give up his wife to save his Aunt. I mean come on. Sounds like something a very spoiled character would do. A very big mama's boy that would give up his wife like that. Sounds very irresponsible on top of that.

I went down to the comic shop and got the whole Spider-man One More Day story arc. I decided to put my two cents worth in after having read the story for myself.

dude, if that's true that stan lee oughta shoot someone.  may's old, this ain't ghost rider, and taking the series back that far would erase years of comic history and frankly if that's the case i can't find much motive to read comics anymore.  it's bad enough doing things like bringing back bucky when he was the only REAL comic book death but this is just retarded.
either way it'll be cleaned up by the end of the arc...if not i can't really protect comics as stuff worth reading anymore.  marvel's not in the middle of a bankruptcy, they don't need this.

Superdude, you do realize that all marvel heroes can share other Marvel villains, right?

Personally I think it's an amazing plot twist and that to make it better, Spidey should trick mephisto in some way with the help of Ghost Rider.

I wouldn't give up on comics completely because in the world of comics just like everything else nothing ever stays the same. If you don't like what's happening now, odds are something will change later down the road that you will like.

I do see where you are coming from as far as to questioning the logic of making this a permanent change. As a story it's very interesting, but if it stays a permanent change to the Marvel universe then it's a bad decision. It's just that Aunt May has probably died or almost died like 50 times already.

It's time to see what happens to Peter Parker as an adult.

The thing we the reader have to keep in mind is that sometimes it's takes earth shattering events to get folks to drive down to the comic shop. I miss the days when all I had to do was go to the local drug store to get my comics. Heck, there was like 2 or 3 different places in town where I could get my comics as a kid. Now I got to drive for 30 minutes and fight   what I consider big city traffic, or I got to order comics online or have a subscription.

While I'm on the subject I'm not too crazy about Marvel's online comics deal. It might hurt the back issue market values. Of course that just means I might be able to get my old comics cheaper.

i wouldn't worry about the back issue prices because reading old issues was available in tpbs and essential volumes way before online comics.  i'm not a huge fan of reading on the computer, myself.
and i figure that eventually this event will be taken back like all of history's comic screw ups.   making it permanent would invalidate nearly every marvel comic of the last 20 years seeing as spidey's so huge.  i heard the michael straczynski didn't want his name on the last issue when he heard what was planned.  there's been too much hate flying around about this twist for it to stick.  i would've loved this book if peter had made the hard choice of letting aunt may go finally.  she's only got (in real life terms) a little while longer to live anyway.
and lectro, i'm pretty sure evryone knows marevl characters share villains, you'd have to be about 5 not to.  i was implying that this deals with the devil crap don't belong in the spider-man mythos.

From a writers perspective it would have seemed the more natural choice since we the reader have already witnessed Aunt May either die or nearly die 50 times.

A lot of people tend to think that Mephisto represents the devil.

One things for sure, Mephisto's not a very nice guy. And boy is he ugly!

dude....the devil is only the devil per se in ghost rider.  other than that, how much more devilness do you need to be called the devil "symbolistic" character who with the help of joe quesada erased spider-man's past and officially admitted that apparently the writers these days aren't smart enough to make a marriage interesting.  i'd have preferred the death of mary jane and may's characters before a retarded thing like this.  of course, then spidey would act even more emo than he did in one more day.

You know I do believe that perhaps one factor in this ending of the Parker marriage is a fondness for the old days in Spider-man's history.

You know I forgot about the devil showing up in ghost rider, and he ain't even known as Mephisto there is he?
