Police Chief Jonathon Dark felt uneasy as he left his office that night. Sometimes he wished he had inherited his ancestor's ability because then he would know exactly when his life was threatened. But he has trusted his own instincts, his "Gut" feeling for the past thirty years of his career and so far it has served him well.
A scraping noise could be heard up ahead as he entered the parking garage "Who's there" he shouted as his slowly slid his police revolver from its holster, "show yourself! This is the chief of police!"
"Get a grip Jon" he berates himself "what if your officers saw you acting like this?"
He thought he saw a shadow off to the left and swung his pistol in that direction "calm down you don't want the guys to think you're a chicken s#!t do you?"
Jonathon tries to bring his nerves under control. He should feel excited since his lead detective told him they almost had enough evidence to take down Franklin Harrier and his two bit thugs. Man then he could definitely relax once that happens. He had been trying to build a case against Harrier for his entire nine years as police chief.
Just then he sees two flashes of light in the distance and then nothing at all.
Three days later...
John Dark Jr returns home to get his father's affairs in order. He tries to put on a brave face in front of the police officers at the funeral. Wearing shades to hide his tears he accepts the folded flag as it is presented to him. He shakes hands and thanks everyone who came to the funeral before retiring to his father's house.
Vowing to get revenge he joins the local martial arts Dojo in order to begin training.
"Good evening Sensei, I am Jay Jay, J.J. Shadows and I would like you to train me" he bows giving the master a false name should any of his enemies track him to the Dojo.
For the next three years he trains in hand to hand and crossbow marksmanship. His former college roommate Sean Scott begins developing him some high-tech weaponry in which to use in his mission.
With the training behind him and his new high-tech crossbow and wrist-bladed gauntlets in his arsenal he dons a black mask and costume. Calling himself The Midnight Avenger he starts his crusade in the back alleys of Saint Katherine's Bay.
"Beware villains, for it is Midnight!"

Got to love classic superhero phrases like, "Beware villains" brings me back to the days of Adam West or maybe one of the old movie serials. I've got the old Kirk Alyn and Captain Marvel on DVD.
