A month after his encounter with the demon Baal *see Gabriel Jones and the Archangel's Blade 1&2* Gabe spent some time searching his Watchtower. He discovered, much to his own amazement, that the angel that led him here had a reason. This old fort is an abandoned Templar stronghold.

He found that below ground in the dungeon there was one cell which did not hold captives but held another secret. It hid a passageway that led to a Templar library. In it he found diaries kept by each knight throughout history. They chronicled some of the turning points in history.

Gabriel Jones was the most amazed at the diary that told of the battle of the Alamo. As the only two Templars of their time David Crockett and James Bowie  each brought a group of volunteers to help hold the fort.

He also found the history of his sword the Claiomh Solais and found that it had been the sword carried by the first official Templar, Hugues de Payens, a French Knight who proposed the founding of the Order after the first crusade.

As Gabe delved deeper into the diaries he discovered that Templar's Crockett and Bowie didn't die at the Alamo as recorded in the history books. A demon took Crockett and disappeared. Templar Bowie went in pursuit but never found a trace of them.

Soon after Jim Bowie built this fort and moved all the Templar property to it. He set it up as a stronghold in order conduct his search for his friend Crockett.

I'm curious to see where this is going. You know I like old Davy Crockett.

After reading a little more into the history books Gabe took another moment to look around. He found Jim Bowie's famous knife and Crockett's coonskin cap on display as well as other items apparently belonging to other members of the Templar.

Then he turned back to Bowie's diary...

"I had finally tracked the demon to a small town named Diablo Grande down in Mexico" Bowie began "I pulled by knife from her sheath and prayed that God grant me strength. Summoning up my powers through the enchanted knife I let the angel wings burst from shoulders and carry me aloft so that I might get a better look at the town."

"And then in the cemetery what did I see? The demon that stole Crockett!" here Bowie paused a moment before recounting his story in the diary. Gabe could tell this because of the tear stains that smeared the next line, "the blasted creature was wearing Crockett's hat! His enchanted coonskin cap, it was enough to throw me into a fit. I hollered at the demon to give over the hat but he laughed at me. Can you believe that? The blasted thing had the nerve to laugh at me. So I shot forth a blast of fire from the blade and burnt the demon to a crisp. Then I took Crockett's cap and placed it on my head trying to divine his possible location."

"Me and my blasted temper! If I'd just waited to fry him until after he told me what happened to Templar Crockett. But what's done is done I reckon. He deserved to be turned into Mr. Crispy anyways. That's what Davey would've wanted."

And here the diary ended. Not sure what to make of it Gabe stared at the pages for a moment more. Then he went over and picked up Crockett's cap and placed it on his on head.

Instantly he saw a vision of the the battle of the Alamo from Davey's own eyes. He watched the battle unfold and then the demon appear to snatch him away. He was trapped in the claws of the beast and taken far away in what seemed mere moments. Locked in an brimstone cage he could only watch as the demon danced around a fire summoning his master. Then he was on fire burning and the cap was knocked from his head.

The vision faded away to nothingness. Gabe wondered if anyone could've survived being burned alive? He resolved himself to take up the search for Crockett and to find out what happened to Bowie as well. At least until more demons crossed over. Then he would have to slay them first.

As Gabriel gathered up his leather duster and Claiomh Solais he turned his attention toward the town of Diablo Grande. What would he find there now, all these years after Crockett was burned by a demon? Only one way to find out. He stuffed Crockett's cap and Bowie's knife in a satchel and threw the strap over his shoulder.

Then he drew the sword from it's sheath and his wings sprouted from his back. Taking to the air Gabe winged his way toward Mexico. He did not know what he would find there but knew he owed it to the former Templar's to find out.

"I wonder why Bowie didn't write any more in the diary?" Gabe kept going back to that question in his mind. If he had put on the cap as Gabriel had he would have seen Crockett's fate as well, wouldn't he?

Maybe Jim Bowie knew more about it's significance than he did. For they had both been Templars for years fighting against the demons. But Gabe himself had only been one a few days. What was he missing??

As he approached the town of Diablo Grande, Gabe noticed it looked exactly as it had in his vision minus all the people. It had since become a ghost town of sorts. It was like all the people had been disintegrated and the town was frozen in time.

He found the remains of the brimstone cage that good ole Crockett had been kept in. Off to the left he saw something else, a charred corpse off to the side. Was it Templar Crockett?

Before Gabriel could get a closer look he was ambushed by a pack of demonwolves. They were on him fast. He swung his sword slaughtering them as the came but more kept coming. Then their master, a demon carrying of all things a rifle, shouted at them to stop.

"Tell me what is going on here foul demon" Gabe shouted!

"No boy you don't give me orders. No one gives ole Davy orders ya here me?"

"Crockett? You can't be!!!"

"Like hell I can't!" with that the demon Crockett fired his rifle, but instead of bullets it fired off brimstone and fire.

Gabriel took to the sky and pulled out Bowie's knife and summoned its flame striking out at Crockett. The good ole boy from Tennessee simply rolled out of the way and came to his feet firing faster than would seem possible.

Using Claiomh Solais to deflect the brimstone and Bowie's knife to strike back Gabriel maneuvered around the fire. He thought he dodged it all but then his left wing was singed and he lost altitude. The ground came to fast for him and the wind was knocked from his lungs and several bones were broken.

"What happened to Bowie" Gabe asked struggling for air "why isn't he here?"

"Oh but he is right over there" Crockett said pointing at the charred corpse with his rifle "he tried to save me, he really did."

Crockett looked a little said for a moment but it passed quickly. He fired the rifle again, the brimstone tearing through Gabriel's shoulder.

"Aaaaaah!!!" Gabe screamed in agony as his body slowly tried to regenerate itself through the fiery punishment it was receiving.

Then he summoned his angelic voice and paralyzed Crockett in his tracks. He pulled the coonskin cap from his satchel and forced himself to his feet.

He barely had time to place it on Davy's head before the demon broke free from Gabe's hold. But something strange happened then. Davy did not attack Gabriel Jones. The cap freed his mind from its torturous prison.

"Thank you my friend" Crockett said extending his still demonic hand "Jim tried to set me free ages ago but he didn't bring the cap."

"I am glad to have helped but what happens now?"

"Well this body should turn to dust pretty soon and then my soul should be free to return to Heaven. As for Bowie, his soul is still trapped in his body for nothing burned in hellfire can escape not even the soul" Davy scratched his head a moment and then thoughtfully added "try using his knife, place it in his hand and put the cap on his head. It's possible that two Templar artifacts can free him, if not I will truly spend the rest of my days in torture at what I did to my friend."

With that the demon Crockett's body began bursting into flames and the ashes were carried off in the wind.

Gabriel placed the items as Davy instructed and waited but nothing happened. Then he added his own sword to the mix. It acted like a catalyst! The body began twitching and the skeleton's jaw moved.

"You did it! I am finally free of that hell! Thank you my friend, thank you!"

The body burst into flames just as Davy's had and then everything went still.

The End???
