The change came over him quite suddenly. One minute he was meditating on the mountain top and the next his skin was on fire. It melted away leaving a demonic exoskeleton. Voices filled his head with terrible screams. Then a soft sultry voice was whispering inside his head, calling him to the Arizona desert. His demonic form was encased in fire but this time it didn’t burn. He was somehow controlling it.

His body rose off the ground and he was flying over the mountain range and then the ocean as he whipped his way to America. It took him several hours but he finally saw the desert within range. The voice was still calling to him. More excited the closer he got.

“Free your Queen” it screamed wildly, almost frantic!

“For you, anything” Jupiter said aloud as he landed on the hot desert sand.

Then he let loose a stream of fire from his eyes that burned through the sand. Soon the dust was swirling and a gateway began to appear. A face could be seen in the portal, that of a demon woman.

Jupiter took a blast of energy to his turned back as a blond woman and three men appeared. The monk from Laos lost his concentration and the gateway closed. Howls of defiance came through the portal as the demon queen cursed her luck.

“Stand down, demon” the woman shouted!

As Jupiter tried to clear his head he saw the other’s more clearly now, one had the wings of an insect and was hovering overhead. Another was covered in metal also held aloft by some unseen force. Off to his right was the final man, surrounded in electricity and making crackling sounds.

He turned back to the woman, she was clearly the one in charge of this rag tag group, and he spoke uneasily “how did I get here?”

“The question is why you are here demon? I care not for how” the woman replied “you are now in the jurisdiction of the Superhuman Defense League and you will turn yourself over to us.”

He realized the sound of an order when he heard one. But he still had no clue as to why he was here in the first place. The last thing he remembered was meditating in Laos. Jupiter would not become someone else’s captive while he had the power to stand up for himself so he did the only thing he could think of.

Jupiter Zadkiel, the monk from Laos, spat a stream of fire from his mouth and engulfed the blond woman in flames. Then he turned and ran as fast as his new demon legs could carry him.

The insect and metal men came in pursuit. The metal man firing off some kind of energy bursts after him. He couldn’t tell what had happened to the others. Then one moment he lost sight of the insect man as well. Had the bug simply vanished?

Jupiter took one last look over his shoulder at the metal man and then faced forward and slammed right into the insect. The two tumbled over each other, each clawing at the other trying to be the one on top once they stopped rolling. The demon won his strength superior to the other man and he pinned him hard into the ground.

In all the commotion he forgot about the other man pursuing him until he heard the cold metallic voice sound right in his ear “let Dragonfly go while you are still in one piece!”

As he stood up off the one called Dragonfly, Jupiter dusted himself and looked the metal man in the helmeted face “I give up. I do not know what has become of me. I hope your female friend is okay.”

Just then a crackling sound could be heard as the electrical man teleported in holding the woman by the arm. She appeared a little singed but relatively unhurt.

“I can handle myself demon” she said sharply “but you had best explain yourself now before I unleash that flame back on you.”

“How? I don’t understand how you survived the hellfire.”

“My body absorbs almost all forms of energy” she replied “and thanks to Voltage here I was able to catch up to you.”

Voltage looked over at Dragonfly with a smirk on his face “you let this thing get the best of you?”

“Better watch out you walking electrical outlet, I might just douse you in water” Dragonfly joked.

“Enough guys” the woman snapped harshly “we have to figure out what to do with this demon.”

“The change came over me suddenly” Jupiter said “I wasn’t always a demon. I am or was a monk. I don’t even know how I got here.”

“Sounds like a possession to me” the metal man said.

“You think everybody is possessed Powerhouse” Dragonfly butted in.

“Just about everyone I've met is. I still haven’t figured out what possesses Bombshell to allow you on the team.”

His attempt at humor wasn’t lost on Dragonfly who burst out laughing uncontrollably. Bombshell fixed him with a stare and then turned back to the one named Jupiter.

“You will return to the Watchtower with us so that we may run some tests on you and figure out what has happened, understood?”

“Yes I understand” Jupiter said as his body caught fire again. This time his demon body melted away and was replaced by his frail monk’s body now unclothed and weak from the experience.

Jupiter Zadkiel collapsed. Powerhouse scooped him up and flew him back to the Watchtower, Dragonfly in his wake trying hard to keep up.

Voltage teleported himself and Bombshell back to the headquarters arriving before the others.

“Ready the lab” she said and turned toward the control room.
