Writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, best known for their work on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, are in final negotiations to write a live-action big-screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger for Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Found this on Yahoo.

Quote:
Johnny Depp is becoming the new face of Walt Disney Studios. The actor will preside over the manic tea party in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" as the Mad Hatter and will play Tonto in "The Lone Ranger," whose latest screen incarnation is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Quote:
"Ranger," meanwhile, puts Depp back in business with Bruckheimer, who produced the "Pirates" movies. Tonto is the Native American colleague of cowboy hero the Lone Ranger. The casting could stir up controversy with Native American groups, who might accuse the studio of putting a white actor in the role. One factor that could counter such an argument is Depp's mixed ancestry, which includes German, Irish, and Cherokee.

"Ranger" is being written by "Pirates" scribes Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio and has no director at this time.

So what do you all think? I can't wait to see this Lone Ranger. I'm almost surprised Depp didn't get the part of the Lone Ranger himself. I hope they don't give him a hard time about playing a Indian. Where I'm from everybody is mixed with Cherokee Indian and other races. I've got Cherokee on both sides of my family.

That's what America is all about I suppose, my grandmother on my father's side was 1/8 cherokee.

I hope they put someone good in the role of the Lone Ranger. I'm not sure who I'd like to see in that role myself not just anybody could pull it off.

The Lone Ranger is like Captain America. It's got to be somebody of great morality otherwise fans of Clayton Moore will be angry, me too of course. Well he doesn't have to be a saint, but I hope he's not some big mouthed liberal hollywood type. Need somebody that's not political just very pro-America.

Depp has agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" pic and play Tonto in a bigscreen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," both produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. He will also star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s version of "Alice in Wonderland."

Don't really care about Alice in Wonderland, but I wonder where the next Pirates will go?
Posted:  27 Sep 2008 00:07
I heard that Keira Knightley said she wouldn't be in it.

Does that mean what's his name won't be in it either? Her husband? Lord of the Rings dude? Can't remember his name for nothing.

Orlando Bloom is who you're thinking of, I don't know about the new pirates movie I haven't heard anything about it except what's been mentioned here.

Oh well I'm sure some more news will pop up on it soon.

Do you think they can leave the chick out and still keep William Turner in the movie?

The last film ended with them talking about the fountain of youth...myabe that'll be where they plan to go with it.

Lone Ranger, is it another rewrite or there just making another movie of it? William Turner, if the do, he will barley be in the movie, 'cause he's DEAD.

He can come back you know.

I don't know if the Lone Ranger will start with his origin or not, but I'm sure there are going to be some differences. I hope they stay true to the Lone Ranger mythos while making it action packed as modern audiences expect from a movie these days.

Who would make a good Lone Ranger?
Posted:  28 Sep 2008 20:11
Good question. I'd like somebody that's actually from Texas or at least has that kind of persona. You know somebody that can actually ride a horse and somebody with some kind of decency about them. If it was somebody of the kind of personality of Clayton Moore the original LR that would be perfect.

I can't think of anybody like that...

A good Lone Ranger? Thomas Jane, my opinoin.

I was watching Speedracer yesterday and I kind of thought that Matthew Fox who played Racer X might be an ok Lone Ranger.

Matthew Fox does give off that self confidence of "I know I'm right and I'll do what needs to be done." I could almost see him in the role

Yeah, and that is one attribute the LR must have. He's not one of these characters that's constantly in angst wondering if he's doing the right thing or not. It's pretty clear in the old west anyway. Either you stop the bad guy or he shoots you.
