I found an article asking whether or not Christian Bale's voice on the Dark Knight had gotten too low and gravely.

Quote:
Though "The Dark Knight" has been a bona fide cultural event, boasting rave reviews and boffo box office, it hasn't been immune to criticism. Some have quibbled with its political undercurrents, and others have criticized a muddled theme.

But here's the critique most widely held: Why does Batman talk like the offspring of Clint Eastwood and a grizzly bear?

Personally, I think he should sound a little deeper than Bruce Wayne but not as much as he is. He should sound mad and going as deep as Dirty Harry is just right, but sometimes it did seem a little forced and too gravely.

I do see see though that Batman would disguise his voice for obvious reasons of course.

I thought the gravelish voice was a good touch...voice patterns are similar to a fingerprint.  Batman needs to chg his voice in order to keep his identity a secret.

I agree he needs some gravel in his voice, but seems like Bale might have went a bit overboard in a few scenes. To me anyway. It works pretty good in scenes that call for extreme anger.

they used editing to furhter enhance some of bale's growls but i think the voice he's gone with is perfect.  in the kevin conroy (batman animated series) tradition of changing your perosnality when you put on the bat suit.  i love it.

I'm Batman.

I got a friend who's been running around doing a terrible imitation of Batman now. He's driving me nuts.
