who's readin the rip storyline?
i have to say i'm not a big fan of (writer) grant morrison's stuff.  i didn't really like "arkham asylum: aserious house on serious earth" or his run on "x-men (also called new x-men)" but i loved his multiple eisner award winning title all star superman.  this is partly due to frank quitely's art, which i didn't like on his x-men run with morrison.
now DC's given him their two main events, RIP and final crisis, both which i think have started out weak.  RIP is just too weird and out their for me.  I feel like you either have to have read the past 20 issues of batman to understand, or it's going to come together in the end.  i just read the most recent one, batman 680, and while the action level is up, i still have little idea of what's going on.  this is partly due to the month ait in between issues.  i don't want to get out and reread the previous issues and there's no little paragraph in the fron recappng what's happened.  that's why trades are beneficila and effcient for books you haven't read or want to reread.  then the problem is though, if you buy one and the story turns out lame that's a good $15-$20 gone with no 1st print issues or cool covers for your collection to show for it. in 680 there was some good joker scripting (reminiscent of ledger's joker) and a cool dialogue between him and batman, but i'm completely lost.  if not for the great covers by alex ross, and my all star superman inspired faith in morrison, i'd get out now.  but the hype is up for this series so i assume that there will be a big payoff.  anyone else have an opinion on this arc which is supposedly going to change the batman landscape forever?

These Alex Ross covers look great.I think thats worth the money alone. But on the Grant Morrison side the last stuff I read of his was the '7 Soldiers of Victory'.Seven different view points tell one story. He likes to slow burn a story. But before you reach the end you find yourself in the middle of a hurricane of events without realising it. Plus there a real dark underbelly running through the story. I imaging the Batman stuff will be no different. He'll torture Batman's mind and soul to breaking point I bet before the stories through.

The covers are definitely cool. I'm trying to just keep up with the Final Crisis stuff myself. Liking the Legion mini series with Superman Prime.

Getting part of the Marvel Invasion series, and the Avengers/Invaders series.

yeah i only focus on the actual event for DC books, but i do occasionally follow marvel events with a lot of tie-ins.  and yes, the covers alone make the purchase worthy.  i think what i liked so much about all star superman is the single issue stand alone story, that allowed his idd creativity to flow, but avoided the story being bogged down in confusion.
