first off, it makes no difference unless you have an HD tv, the HDMI cable, etc. secondly, i just got one alonmg with the tv and i love it. i haven't been buying dvds for awhile now in anticipation of the the definitive blu-ray format, and i'm very pleased.
the picture is so perfectly clear that you can walk right up to the tv screen, inches from you face, and you still can't see and blur, pixels, fuzz, etc.
so far i've only seen iron man, speed racer, and hellboy 2 on blu-ray.
iron man was crystal clear, speed racer's colors were amazing, and hellboy 2 was the ideal blu-ray movie. depending in what aspect ratio they have, they may still have small bars at the top or bottom for widescreen, but hellboy 2 was filmed in 1.85(as oppsoed to 2.35) so it filled up the whole widescreen tv. shows like the office and smallville are filmed in a similar size, and fit perfectly on the screen.
also, with blu-ray being such a new format, some blu-ray players don't have the ability to do all of the features and settings, so i'd advise you don't go cheap and pay a little more for a sony or other good brand. our sony blu-ray has worked perfectly so far.
with some movies wathcing them on blu-ray is like rewatching them for the forst time. every detail is presented in a theater like fashion. my father doesn't plan to see hardly any new movies in the theater with blu-rays being so good.
if you do get a blu-ray player it's important to shop around for the best deals. wal-mart rarely has these "best deals" and often charges $30 for new blu-rays. prices go down after time with blu-rays and i've found that amazon has the best price 90% of the time. they have a direct link to blu-ray.com so i go their to see new releases and deals. example: speed racer was $30 at wal-mart, $20 on amazon. the die hard series was $80 (roughly) at wal-mart but is currently priced on amazon for $55. blu-ray.com also has great in depth reviews detailing the quality of video, sound, etc.wal-mart is just not great for blu-ray movies. also, used ones are great to look out for. we were able to run into spidey 3 for only $4 at a pawn shop.
so instead of buyinmg any more dvds, even if you don't have a blu-ray yet, i'd save up for a player and blu-ray movies. they're the fututre of home video. as the skrulls would say, "embrace change." __________________"You...complete me."
