Ok my opinion. I can't stop myself from going to see this one, but on the other hand I really wish they would have gotten somebody more able to play things more seriously like say Jim Carrey who can flip from serious to comedy and in between. He can make a character seem crazy yet believable. Will Ferrel just isn't the dude for this. I felt the same way about Bewitched. There Jim Carrey was born to play Samantha's husband you know.

Anyway the effects look good and I guess I have a huge curiosity factor like will they do something nice for the fans like explain where the heck the Land of the Lost is. Give us something for being fans of the show for all these years.

I did like the line in the video about spending tax payer dollars. That was funny.

Original Land of the Lost

This really does seem like a fun adventure from a non-fan's perspective, but I just read something that really stinks.

Holly will be his assistant not his daughter, and Will will be a guide. Come on guys why the change? Seems like keeping it a family would make it a blockbuster family movie.

I somewhat agree tim but who knows, maybe ferrell will do a good job.

Well on one hand I can see me enjoying the movie if the comedy is kind of clean slapstick and such, and then the cool effects on top of that, but as a fan of the original Land of the Lost I think it's such a waste not to use the rich background of the source material. Sure it was hokey by today's standards I suppose. I mean the effects and so forth weren't up to today's standards by any means, but I would think the point of an update is take what's good about the original and just use today's special effects and of course greater budget to make the original better not just loosely base it on the original . I mean if you make enough changes you might as well create a whole new concept.

I'm a little lost myself. Wasn't Land of the lost a Cartoon series? I remember the bit of the yellow raft taking a wrong turn into a mountain. Plus a dinosaur pet of some sort.

I know why you think that. There was a hanna barbera series that was a lot like Land of the Lost. It was called Valley of the Dinosaurs and ran from September 7, 1974 to September 4, 1976.

Land of the Lost used live people.

I pulled this up on Valley of the Dinosaurs.

American science teacher John Butler along with his wife Kim, their two children Katie and Greg, and their dog Digger are on a rafting trip on the Amazon River. As they are going down the river, their boat hits a rock and capsizes. The family then gets caught in a whirlpool. When they surface upon going through an underground cavern, they find themselves in a prehistoric valley where they meet caveman Gorak, his wife Gara and their two children Lok and Tana. The two families soon become friends and Gorak and his family help the Butlers in their many attempts to find a way to return home while trying to survive in the valley.
