BIG BLUE awakenings Part 9 by Wayne Clayton

Silence engulfed Sam as he stood looking at the sealed door. So here he was at last alone.  Alone that was save for an eighty-four year old man pickled inside an Atom Bomb at the bottom of a lake. It was just his luck to be at the wrong place at the right time.

He finally pulled himself away from the door and wandered back into the room which was to be his home for all eternity it seemed. The walls were bare except for the odd splash of wartime propaganda. The usual ‘Buy War Bonds’.  And ‘Loose Lips Sink Ships.’ At the end of the bunk was a dull army issue green metal trunk. Sam lifted the lid and peeked inside. It contained what must have been the last few belongings of the last luckless soul who was stationed here. And judging by the neatly folded uniform it was a good sixty years since he had escaped. Sam reached in and lifted out a pile of coffee stained magazines and found beneath them a hand full of original wartime Johnny Reb comic books. At least now he’d have something to help pass the time.

Placing them on the desk he then picked up the pencil and pad. As he had nothing better to do he thought he might as well start the job he wasn’t been paid to do. He sat down at the desk and opened up the Medical File once more. This time he jotted down a list of calculations he had to do before even starting to work out how was to perform this miracle they wanted.

In effect they wanted him to somehow wring all the chemicals and drugs out of this guys system. A system he didn’t even have a clue of what it looked like inside. From what little the General had given him he guessed that it was save to say he should forget everything they taught him at medical school and play it by ear and not take anything for granted. So he started with the basics.

He scribbled down ‘Big Blue’s height and weight and did the math to find out his density and rough surface area. It wasn’t much but it was a start. Maybe it was best to work on the assumption that the guy had soaked up the gas which surrounded him like a sponge. And that the internal organs simply didn’t exist in the way they would in a normal human. This was in part born out by the discrepancy between what this guy should have weighed and what the file said. He was at least four times the mass he should have been for a guy of his size. Perhaps this would explain the vast quantity of drugs they used to administer the coma in the first place.

He continued to pour over the figures for the next few hours, before deciding to take a break. He stretched and wandered back into the main room. And before he knew it he was standing once more in the presence of the man in the bomb. He suddenly felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. It reminded him of the time when as a student he had visited Paris and stood at the foot of the grave of Jim Morrison. He had never been a great fan but once there he had found it impossible to leave. Some power had held him there transfixed.

That same power radiated out of this man.

“Jesus!!!” Sam almost jumped out of his skin as the telephone started to ring. Its bells shattering the spell Sam had found him self in.

He stumbled towards the receiver to pick it up, but before he got there it suddenly fell silent.

Spell broken Sam headed back to his note pad and shut the door behind him. He felt it best to crack on with his calculations before he started bouncing of the walls. He’d have plenty of time for that tomorrow.

Wayne that reminds me since I'm trying to make everything work as well as possible on the site, can you tell me this? Do you recognize the posters at the top of the forum and gallery as being posters. Just wondering if they need the word "posters" where it says "Buy Now!"

Just hit me that maybe people don't know what they are which means I'll have to seperate out the t-shirts probably.

I don't have a problem with it. The T-shirts are T-shirt shaped. And the posters look like posters.

Thanks, with the economy like it is I got to throw out all the stops to make a buck.

Maybe the economy will get better today. I can always hope any way.

really great job Wayne i could have never written a story like this! you make it sound so real! also you really do a great job of keeping the reader interested in the story,i'm always like whats next!!!!!!!! lol !! loved that little Johnny Reb comic thing!! i actually pictured it in my head!! it's really a great story,i tried to make a second comic to this story but it looked to cartoony, and this story is more  like a novel type story . when i read it it really makes me visualize your discriptions and when i draw it it really doesnt do the story justice!! i wish i was more of an accomplished artist to pull of all the great details in your story! but you're really doing a great job!!!! and so far there's only to people in the story!!!!! (well besides Big Blue)
