As the ragtag team assembled out in the parking lot of the skyscraper that housed “Shamus Investigations” they immediately heard a cry of terror not a block away. The four men ran towards the sound only to find the remains of the old woman whom Seamus Flannigan had just recently met with, the one who had tried to trap the Bodach in her bedroom.

“The creature must’ve come back for revenge” Seamus muttered “the poor thing didn’t stand a chance. I should’ve foreseen this and cast a protective ward around her before I left her apartment.”

“You can’t beat yourself up” Ethan said calmly “who’s to know what this slippery devil plans to do.”

“I’ve studied the supernatural for more years than I care to count” Seamus replied his anger rising “I should’ve been able to decipher his intentions. I should have kept surveillance on the old woman, shadowed her every move until the creature dared show himself” with that sentiment he slammed his cybernetic fist down on the hood of a 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang causing steam to erupt from the radiator and sparks to fly as the hood caved downward destroying the engine beneath it.

“We have to find the owner and apologize” Gabriel intervened “it is not right for any of us to destroy another’s property. We will have to find away to pay remittance.”

“Don’t worry your holy head about it” Seamus replied “it’s my own car. This is the third time I’ve done that in the past four years. Not sure if I can afford to fixer up this time though.”

“Well then let’s be off” Billy said breaking his silence “the trail is getting cold.”

Summoning his spirit guide, Billy stood still with his eyes closed as if in a trance. The energy coyote materialized and seeped into his skin imbuing him with its power. His eyelids opened and the sight caused the others to take a step back. Instead of his eyes, the sockets were ablaze with blue fire.

The spirit allowed Billy to see the spectral plane and easily find the footprints left by the Bodach. Unbeknownst to him at the time was the fact that Seamus’ amulet allowed him to see the same things. But it didn’t matter who did it as long as there was a trail to follow.

“I’ve got the trail” Billy said with a mechanical voice that bordered on the realm of zombielike “follow me.”

Pulling his hatchets from their holsters he started walking in a wavy pattern following the Bodach’s trail exactly. Gabriel unfurled his wings and took to the air surveying the scene from above while the others followed directly behind the Coyote. Then Billy’s hatchets blazed to life in the same blue fire as the group entered an alleyway between two department stores.

“There” he pointed to the sewer grate “he’s beneath us.”

Ethan McKnight, the newest Rook, used his newfound armor provided superhuman strength to easily lift the grate allowing the others entry. Then he too jumped down behind them pulling the grate back in place as if it was made of plastic rather than thick metal.

It was pitch black in the sewer and it was rank. Ethan pulled forth his golden sword and it began shining brightly showering the tunnel with light. The Bodach wasn’t very far ahead and it turned at the sudden brightness and let out a low hiss. Then he charged them unafraid.

Before it got too close Billy threw one of his fiery hatchets and the blade cut into the creature’s shoulder where a normal weapon would have simply passed through its fluid like body. The creature let out an agonizing cry as it reeled back in pain. Then the Bodach wrapped its claw like fingers around the weapon’s hilt and pulled it free, screaming as it did so.

“Remember we need it alive” Seamus shouted to be heard above the commotion.

The Rook held his sword out in front of him in a defensive stance as did War Angel after pulling his own fire sword from its sheath “there’s not much room to maneuver down here” they both said at the same time.

The Bodach then started to open a portal. Purple energy began spinning in mid air getting larger as it did so. Seamus however was already chanting a containment spell while squeezing the amulet in his right hand. Just as the creature made for the portal the spell hit him full force immobilizing him.

“What do we do now?” Billy asked clutching his other hatchet bracing himself against any retaliation by the Bodach.

“We wait for the portal to shut itself down” Seamus replied “we can’t just leave it here unattended; something else might come through it.”

The Bodach struggled to free itself from its invisible cage, shrieking as it did so. However as minutes rolled by the portal finally collapsed on itself causing the group to emit a collective sigh of relief. Then Seamus moved closer to the mischievous creature.

The investigator chanted again this time holding his right hand in front of him palm outward. Small tendrils of energy laced outward and encompassed the creatures head. This allowed for the transference of information from the Bodach’s mind to that of Seamus’. He had to be careful here for this particular spell could backfire allowing the creature access to his own mind.

Three seconds later, but what seemed an eternity to Seamus’ mind, he had extracted what he wanted to know and ended the spell. He then released the Bodach from its shackles. The dark creature peered at him with hate in its eyes contemplating whether to flee or fight.

Stupidly it chose the latter and leapt towards the small group. The Coyote hit him with his second fiery hatchet cleaving the creatures arm from its shoulder. The pain slowed the Bodach down but it didn’t stop. Closing in and swinging its one arm wildly it connected with the Navajo sending him flying backwards into the side of the tunnel.

War Angel swung his fiery blade in a downward arc cutting the creatures other arm off. The Bodach shrugged off this attack as well and bared its fangs. Biting into Gabriel’s neck it howled in glee. The pain was immense.  Gabriel bashed the creature in the head with the hilt of his sword knocking it free. Then he clutched at his wound with his free hand. The blood stopped flowing and the bite marks began fading almost instantly as his healing ability kicked in.

The Rook came to his rescue slamming an armored fist into the Bodach’s face causing it to stumble backwards further away from the group. Before it could recover Seamus pulled out his hellfire revolver and squeezed the trigger. The brimstone erupted from its barrel and hit the ink-black creature square in the chest.

What happened next was unexpected. The creature erupted in flames; the smell of sulfur filled the air attacking the group’s senses. Then there was an explosion knocking them all off their feet. The sound of weapons clinging off the sewer floor was heard and everyone swore under their breaths.

Recovering the group found themselves covered in sewage “what the hell was that all about?” Billy voiced the question on everyone’s mind.

“No time to explain” came Seamus’ answer “we only have forty-five minutes!”

“Forty-five minutes until what?” Ethan asked.

“Until the whole city becomes a warzone” Seamus replied harshly “lets get back up to street level.”

Aww man, not that. That's a classic. Couldn't he have destroyed a rice burner? or maybe a Pinto.

Just kidding. Visually or at least visually in my mind that caught my attention. I guess you have to give readers things that they don't want to happen to grab them. That's what Alan Moore says anyway.

I don't think anyone would've cared if he crushed a pinto, not even my angelic warrior's morals could've made him apologetic about that.

The 67 shelby mustang is my all time favorite car I guess that's why I gave it to Seamus. Too bad his temper usually causes him trouble in some form or other.

In the first issue it was just something little, crushing his phone, and now he's moved up to automobiles. I wonder if he'll end up accidently demolishing a mobile home next?

I goofed. I had to reread my own story. He didn't actually crush the phone I had just mentioned that he had to be careful with his cybernetic hand after breaking a few beforehand. Oh well
