Here is the first of my one shots chronicling my heroes in the aftermath of the Invasion...this also gives you a glimpse at Voltage's origin

At first I didn’t know what to think when he just disappeared. I am still fairly new at being a hero. So when I saw Captain Midnight rip the head off the mechanical monster and then vanish into thin air I was caught off guard. Though I will admit that the other ‘heroes’ didn’t fair much better. Nobody had been expecting that.

It seemed the superhero community suffered too many losses that day. Not only had our team lost Captain Midnight there at the end but we also lost that Army General that had been fighting with us. I think his name was Vanguard; Wraith seemed to have been very close to him considering the way he started blasting his rifle without regards to anyone else in the vicinity after that.

I heard on the radio later that same day that an angel had been killed in Boreas City by one of the beasts and a coyote was left in a coma. I’m not religious but I didn’t think an ‘angel’ could be killed so I had to wonder if it was a winged man? And why did the news care about some canine? As if that wasn’t enough when I went home and switched on the t.v. there were reports of an atomic explosion out in the desert. I still couldn’t wrap my head around all these events taking place. It was as if the whole world had suddenly gone mad.

Then it happened again, the same dream I have almost nightly. As I lay snuggled in my bed, in my roach infested apartment by the train tracks of Wayward City, NJ I saw myself once more in the ring.

{The announcer raises his microphone to his lips and readies to hype up the crowd “this is what you’ve all been waiting for! Raging Thunder is about to take on the White Skull in the heavyweight title match!”

The crowd roars in delight, some pumping their fists in the air, others holding up signs depicting their favorite wrestlers or personal notes to someone watching from home. Eerie music fills the air and then down the main aisle strides the heavyweight champion, White Skull. He flexes his large muscles for the crowd as he holds his belt up for all to see. Then he leaps over the ropes and into the ring with a feral roar! Some of the crowd boos his performance getting into the excitement of it all.

The White Skull grabs the mic from the announcer’s hand and gives the crowd a tongue lashing “no one disrespects me and gets away with it! I am the White Skull, Bringer of Doom! Just for your insolence I will make Raging Thunder pay the ultimate price!”

At that instant the music changes over to the sound of a very violent thunderstorm as Raging Thunder pushes his way through the steel double doors that lead into the aisle. He runs down the aisle and enters the ring throwing his hands straight up toward the ceiling as hidden pyrotechnics shoot forth a long stream of yellow sparks, resembling lightning bolts, to signify his arrival!

Then the two wrestlers enter into the routine that they had practiced together over and over again all week. Grappling together in a show of strength, White Skull then knees his enemy in the stomach causing him to double over as if in pain. Raging Thunder recovers and then climbs up to the top rope preparing to dive onto the White Skull.

He takes too long to prepare and White Skull runs up and punches him in the crotch causing him to fall off the ropes. White Skull is on top of him, pinning him to the mat. The referee begins counting. Raging Thunder kicks out on the count of 3. Then he slams his elbow into White Skull’s pale masked face. The fight continues for ten minutes before Raging Thunder finally stuns White Skull with a drop kick allowing him to be pinned for the full count.

The announcer lifts Raging Thunder’s left arm in victory as he declares to the screaming crowd “I present to you the new heavyweight champion, Raging Thunder!!!”

Now Raging Thunder leaves the arena and walks down the narrow alley that leads to his waiting car. Rain begins to fall from out of nowhere and lightning crackles across the sky followed by a loud BOOM of thunder! The wrestler looks skyward in interest realizing the appropriateness of the weather.

Then he hears a gunshot nearby in the darkness followed by a burning sensation in his chest. He looks down to see blood oozing from a hole. He falls facedown into a muddy puddle of water just as lightning strikes him in the back.}

I wake up screaming just as I always do, my body surrounded in electricity singeing my sheets and threatening to cause an electrical fire in my apartment. Why must I relive the night that ended my career over and over again? I still cannot see the face of my shooter in the darkness. Though his assault is what prompted me donning a new name and becoming a hero.

The doctor could not explain how a bolt of lightning healed my gunshot wound before the ambulance had even arrived on the scene. That part is still a mystery as is this newfound power to control electrical currents.

If nothing else my recent experience with the Cloven has cemented my mind in the thought of protecting the innocent no matter the personal cost to me.

Just the kind of thing that makes for a great comic book story. Kind of like Cap reliving the night he lost Bucky in WWII.

I wanted him to be really strong without having to give him superstrength so that he doesn't always have to rely on his electrical powers.

Making him a big muscle bound wrestler only seemed logical
