My last 1 shot depicting Shadow Hawk's return to Saint Katherine's Bay. But his moment of peace is short lived...
John Dark returned to the clock tower, his mind in shambles. He still couldn’t get over the idea of Captain Midnight vanishing. Sebastian King had warned him that something like that was possible due to the fragile nature of the time stream but he still didn’t believe it. He saw Sebastian sitting there with his nose in a newspaper instead of staring into his computer screen, a highly unusual sight.
His sister Jessica was sitting at the conference table texting away on her cell phone with a solemn expression on her face. John dropped his backpack holding his ‘Shadow’ suit onto the floor with a thud which captured both of the inhabitants’ attention.
“What has the world come to John?” Sebastian asked close to tears “I mean two national landmarks destroyed, not to mention the death of General Vanguard and the War Angel.”
“Big brother” Jess speaks up “I don’t want to do this anymore” she says closing up her phone “I just want to go back to being a normal teenager.”
Tears burst forth from her face and John wrapped his arms around her in consolation. He too was furious at everything that had happened. He felt like hanging up his gauntlets as well. But then he remembered the reason he was fighting. His father’s killer was still out there somewhere, that’s all the motivation he needed to keep on fighting the good fight. He didn’t blame Jess though. She was only a 17 year old girl, not a combat soldier.
“It’s okay Jess” John says at last “you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
Jessica Dark left after that revving up her motorcycle’s engine as she hit the street in order to clear out all the sadness by doing something she really enjoyed.
The emergency warning lights began to flicker on and off in the Citadel’s war room. Sebastian quickly booted up the Sentinel mainframe and located the disturbance. A large map of Saint Katherine’s Bay spread across the large screen as one of the satellite’s overhead started downloading a real time image.
“What’s going on Sebastian?”
“Looks like two robots are attacking the Sojourn Corporation.”
“Sojourn” John asks “why does that name sound familiar?”
“It is run by Sylvia Martin and her daughter Alicia” Sebastian replies.
Seeing the puzzled look still on John’s face Sebastian decided to elaborate further “they conduct military weapons research and development” Sebastian answered “they are also the ones who provided the police department with highly specialized S.W.A.T gear.”
“That’s right, now I remember. Dad had talked about the new crowd control armor when they had first been issued.”
Outside of the Sojourn building the pair of robots, or upon closer inspection cyborgs, were laying waste to the giant statue standing in front of the main entrance. The female one was an African American who carried herself with an air of authority marking her leadership role. One of her fists turned to mist and sent forth a stream of liquid with enough velocity to chip away at the marble legs of the tribute statue to Sylvia’s late husband and founder of Sojourn.
The other cybernetic organism was an oriental man who carried a long Bo staff in his metal hands. Spinning the staff around it took on the appearance of a fan blade as it sent forward a blast of air that ripped off one of the marble arms. The two robots laughed as the security guards ran out opening fire just to see their bullets bounce off of the metallic bodies.
“Listen to me you peons” the woman ordered “you will bring me the president and her precious daughter or I will destroy you all!”
Both of them were simultaneously hit in the back with small objects that exploded on impact. The fire charred their otherwise unblemished robotics. The man was the first to turn around to notice the black glad figure standing on the roof of a building across the street. His armored mask and glowing green eyes made him appear somewhat eerie even in the daylight.
“Stop what you’re doing” Shadow Hawk yelled out!
“How dare you interrupt” the woman replies, her entire body becoming a metallic liquid and rocketing toward the vigilante’s perch.
Before the oriental man could join her he was assaulted by another newcomer. She wore dark a dark purple suit and hid her identity by a half mask that just covered the eyes. This woman hit him with a sound wave that burst forth from her lips. The force threatened to shatter his metallic body causing him to vibrate all over.
It was hard to tell what happened next. Shadow Hawk extended his blades and struck at the cyborg woman but her liquid body just separated and rejoined after the attack. The woman then ignited an energy sword and attempted to cleave him two but he back flipped out of the way with just inches to spare.
The male cyborg was swinging his staff with such strength that it should be able to shatter steel. But this was caught mentally by the purple woman with telekinetic force. Then the woman hit him with another soundwave that cause his staff to disintegrate.
“Gray Mist, I think we should pull a tactical retreat” the cyborg man shouted at his female counterpart!
“We do not run from any fight Ashigaru, how dare you suggest such a thing?”
But at that moment Shadow Hawk slammed his fist into her stomach implanting a small pellet inside her liquid form. Then he jumped backwards an electromagnetic pulse issued forth shutting down the woman’s cybernetic systems. Her body returned to its solid form however it was now paralyzed.
Upon seeing his boss’s unmoving form Ashigaru made a command decision and kicking his cybernetic legs into overdrive he scooped up Gray Mist and speed off at speeds reaching mach 2. This left Shadow Hawk and the purple heroine alone.
“Thanks for the assist” Shadow Hawk says extending his hand.
“My pleasure” the woman says trying to figure out what else to add.
Seeing her discomfort he spoke again “name’s Shadow Hawk, resident vigilante of Saint Katherine’s Bay.”
Chewing this over in her mind and spotting the designation for her experimental suit R.P.T.R on the sleeve Alicia Martin decided then and there “mine is Raptor, sworn protector of the Sojourn Corporation.” __________________
