The feature will include several notable voices from past DC Comics animated programs, including Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) as Batman and Tim Daly (Superman: The Animated Series) as Superman. Allison Mack from Smallville also has a role. Order at Amazon
This animated movie is based on the comic story by Jeph Loeb in Superman/Batman.
"The character is the character. I established him 18 years ago," Conroy said during a recent interview at Comic-Con International. "Even though the visuals are different, the art is different, I have to remain true to the character.
"It's the same guy and, for me, it's the same performance. The artwork is different and that's someone else's job. "
"I think the reason Batman resonates with the audience so much and has for so long is he doesn't have any superpowers," Conroy said. "He's a mortal. He just has to use his wits. My sort of key to playing the role is that Bruce Wayne is the alter ego, and Batman is his true stuff. The performance is Bruce Wayne. And I think the audiences get that.
"We all have a personal self and a public self. Everyone has a persona they give to perform for the world. And Batman's persona is Bruce Wayne. I think the audience relates to that and having a secret identity that the world wouldn't understand.
"And I try to keep that honest through all the different incarnations of the show, whether it was Batman and Robin or the Justice League or Batman Beyond or now this movie. The animation may change, but you have to remain true to the character, true to the story of the character."
Other actors have recently voiced Batman, and Conroy said he respectfully tries to avoid their performances.
"Just because I don't like to be influenced and that happens very subtlety," he said. "You listen to something and you don't even realize how it affects what you're doing."
Voice director Andrea Romano said that bringing back Conroy -- and Tim Daly as Superman and Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor -- was natural.
"It felt right. We've had the occassion to use other actors, but there's something about the fact that when we first cast these roles, we felt so good about these voices actors," she said.
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies is scheduled for a Sept. 29 release.

This looks so cool
Superman: Where's the Flash when you need him?
Batman: Do us a favor and drop the sense of humor.
Superman: Do us both a favor and buy one. __________________
Michael Goguen, producer of the upcoming Superman/Batman: Public Enemies animated movie, said he was excited by the opportunity to adapt Ed McGuinness' comics style to the film.
"It's a completely new look, a different kind of story," Goguen said. "Compared to a lot of stuff we do at Warner Animated, it doesn't have a concrete reality. It almost veers into another dimension where all these people and super-villains are working for Luthor, they come out of nowhere to fight Superman and Batman.
"The comic takes on a mythic quality at that point. They're in a world of heroes and villains but then they're at a real-world setting with the White House. To me that's all interesting to make it all cohesive. There's so many tones that are unusual and it was challenging."
Director Sam Liu said the creators "tried really hard" to translate McGuinness' approach.
"One of the edicts that Bruce (Timm) wanted was to make it look as much to Ed's art as we possible could," Liue said. "LeSean Thomas was the character designer. They're so big and bulky, but I think he did a great job of making it look like Ed McGuinness in an animation cel as best as possible."

Warner Bros
. has released a question-and-answer with Kevin Conroy, who returns to provide the voice of Batman in the Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
animated movie, arriving in stores on DVD and Blu-ray on Sept. 29.
Following is an edited transcription:
Question: You've been doing this role for nearly 19 years. Are there still challenges to doing the voice of Batman?
Conroy: I guess the biggest challenge to doing any kind of animation voice work is that you only have your voice to tell the story. And you want to keep it real and you don't want to get cartoony, especially now because the audiences are much more sophisticated. Anything over the top is going to read over the top. So it's a very fine line that people walk. For Batman, I think the biggest challenge is the timber of the voice that I established early on. I just kind of improvised it and it stuck. It's very deep in my register very throaty and whenever it gets emotional, it's a difficult sound to create with a lot of volume technically without blowing your chords out. So there's all kinds of tricks you learn along the way of how to produce a sound, how to produce it without injuring yourself, and how to juice it enough. It's a delicate, funny balancing act.
Recording Superman/Batman: Public Enemies was actually easy because of the cast that Andrea (Romano) put together. Tim (Daly) and Clancy (Brown) all of us have worked together a lot over the years, and there's a real shorthand when you're dealing with people who have done a lot of it and know what they're doing. Which is really a pleasure. Andrea doesn't have to say very much for me to know what she wants.
I saw a preview of the movie on the Green Latern:First Flight DVD. This movie looks awesome it may even compete with Superman doomsday in terms of tenderness!< Recess reference __________________

Supermanoomsday was a HUGE let down for m. I was expecting it to be like the comics with the Cybork, and SUperboy and eveything else. Instead, they did something completely different.
WW and GL movies on the other hand were a major improvement. This one loks like it might be just as good. __________________
