"The Midnight Avengers" has been renamed and this issue continues the current numbering system starting at #4 instead of restarting with #1.
This is more of an introductory issue than anything else. Just forming the whole team.
Captain Midnight had assembled his team to fight against evil. After battling sorcerers, demons, and zombies they had been rewarded with their first victory. But there were only 4 of them and the world is a huge place. The team needed more allies if they were to succeed on a global scale. To this end Cole Turner has recruited more people to his group thus creating a whole corps of avenging heroes.
He looked around the mess hall of the U.S.S. Avenger and noted how the team had grown. Lolita, now using the codename Maiden, stood behind the bar serving drinks. Seamus Flannigan, who has also acquired the codename Arcanum, on the other hand was entertaining them all with magic tricks. Captain Midnight was glad to see them having fun, downtime was always good for morale.
Voltage was showing off some of his wrestling moves by coaxing the soldier Wraith into sparring with him. The Coyote, Billy Badlands, was back with them after recovering from his coma. Though he had lost much of his power after his spirit animal was destroyed by the Clovan. And the blonde vixen Luminary was now with them as well. No one seemed to know who she really was. She just appeared on the scene within the last few weeks. She preferred to keep her past to herself. Cole respected her privacy enough not to push the matter but if it started interfering with the team’s mission he’d have to intercede. Until then he was quite happy to let her keep her secret until she was ready to tell them.
“Alright team” Captain Midnight held up his hands for silence “now that we’ve all had a chance to get better acquainted I’d like to take this time to discuss our mission.”
The entire group stopped what they had been doing and turned towards him as if they were highly disciplined soldiers. Cole was glad to see that for he needed them to be soldiers if he was to rid the world of its evils. He took a deep breath, collecting his thoughts.
“As you all know our main objective is the defense of Earth both from terrestrial and extraterrestrial threats. This may seem like an overwhelming task but I think if we work together and make alliances around the world that we will be able to make a stand as the first line of defense. I have chosen this headquarters in international waters in an effort to remain disconnected from any one government, that way we are free to dictate how we do business without becoming involved in politics and being drafted as an extra arm of a nation’s military force.”
Here Cole Turner reflected on how the future Avenger Corps had become warped and twisted into an anti-time travel police force for Midnight City and the thought made him shudder. He would not have that happen on his watch. Forming this Avenger Corps was his way of implementing his own morals into the team with hopes that it will continue on in the future to change the way they operate. __________________
