Sun City…

Tabitha Utterson arrived in Sun City and hovered over the city searching for signs of the monster she came seeking. Suddenly a man wearing a red mask and blue suit came slowly hovering beside her. The man also wore a bandolier with a skull logo across his chest and a black flowing cape. He looked like someone used to being feared and he looked somewhat malevolent.

“Who are you?” asked the gruff voice from beneath the red mask.

“Luminary” she replied swiftly “I am here searching for the green skinned monster and you best stay out of my way!”

“If you’re looking for a monster try picking up an Incredible Hulk comic, there are plenty of images of a green skinned monster in there.”

“The creature I am seeking is not fictional” she replied angered by his snide attitude “his name is Hyde and he was on the news recently doing battle with Dracula in this very city. I need to find him now!”

Letting her anger get the best of her, Luminary unleashed her optic starbursts. The small beams of light shot forth and exploded as they hit the stranger square in the chest. The red masked man dropped thirty feet towards the ground before regaining control and halting his descent.

“Damn, wasn’t ready for that one” the man said looking down at the scorched hole in his suit “luckily that blast couldn’t do me any permanent harm.”

He flew up and swung a right hook catching the lass on the jaw; before she could recover he hit her with a mental blast as well causing her to lose altitude “cease and desist this nonsense. Attacking me is not a smart move.”

“Cease and Desist? Who really talks like that, are you some kind of cop?”

“Former police officer” the man replied “name’s Deadlaw. Trust me I’m not the kind of guy you want to piss off.”

“Fine, just tell me where Hyde has gone.”

Throwing his hands up in frustration Deadlaw spoke again “whoa there. I don’t even know who you’re working for or what you want with Hyde. I can’t just go around giving out that kind of info.”

Luminary balled up her fists as if ready to punch the masked man in the face but thought better of it “I am a member of the Midnight Avenger Corps. I work for Captain Midnight. As for what I want with Hyde that is personal, I mean him no harm, I just need his help.”

Meanwhile in the Himalayas…

Seamus Flannigan searched a 500 square foot area of the mountain where the strange energy signature was coming from. He had yet to locate its source but he would find it. He had even resorted to digging into the snow with his cybernetic arm looking for something buried.

“Maybe a disillusionment charm would work? I haven’t tried one of those before but now’s as good a time as any for practice” the man known to the world as Arcanum said to himself as he searched his mind for the right words.

Chanting like the shaman of some pagan ritual Arcanum’s voice changed pitch several times spanning the entire scale from low to high. An orb of energy began forming in front of him ever widening to encompass the whole plateau on which he stood. As it reached the farthest corner from him a cavern revealed itself. The snow covering its entrance was nothing more than an illusion to avert the eyes.

He quit chanting and the cave once again appeared as nothing more than a snow bank. Seamus Flannigan walked over to where he now new the entrance to be and stepped through the holographic snow and into the dark cavern on the other side.

The Pentagon, Arlington VA…

The Sweepers still had no idea what sort of ghost they were dealing with here and so they opened fire spraying bullets throughout the corridor hoping to hit something besides concrete and sheetrock. Shadowblade managed to dodge most of them thanks to his enhanced reflexes but a few still pinged on his chest armor. Those few ricocheted around the hallway known as Ring A and a couple of those even struck the security guards themselves. As the two injured Sweepers clutched their wounds the others paused afraid that more of them might get hit.

Taking this opportunity John Dark ran towards the closest one and kicked him hard in the stomach knocking him backwards into several others. Then he roundhouse kicked another two before leaping into the air and tackling another one to the floor. Confusion ensued amongst the Sweepers preventing them from coordinating their attacks or defense.

Using this chance as a means to escape Shadowblade returned to the elevator shaft and pried open the doors with his blades, then dropping the seven stories straight down he found himself again in the underground maintenance tunnels.  He ran the length of the corridor in a matter of seconds and found the door he had used to enter the building.

Grabbing the door handle he yanked it open only to find himself staring at a reinforced steel wall. The plate must have slid in place when the alarm was raised. He was now trapped inside with no way out. It was a good bet that all of the exits now had similar plate walls in place. Shadowblade took a breather removing his mask to allow for better ventilation. All of this exertion was wearing him out. Even though the suit made him mobile again his body wasn’t used to it.

As he rested a moment the rest of the team were scheming a way into the facility. Captain Midnight tried to radio Shadowblade but all radio signals were now being jammed by the security inside the Pentagon. There was no way to direct John to where they wanted him to be in order to attempt an extraction.

“Okay so it’s a good bet he’ll head back to the same door he used to enter” Captain Midnight stated “Raptor you need to try and rip that steel plate off the doorway while Wraithe and I keep the guards busy. Once you have Shadowblade we’ll regroup here and radio the V-22 Osprey for pickup.”

“Speaking of the Osprey how is it you have inside contacts to the Pentagon and access to military aircraft?” Raptor asked letting her curiosity get the better of her.

“Let’s just say my contacts are imbedded deep into the government and they don’t want to see a war escalate anymore than we do. Don’t ask any more questions, they prefer to remain anonymous…for now.”

“Okay but once we get John out of there I want answers” she replied somewhat deflated.

“Fair enough” Captain Midnight replied “okay let’s get to work.”
