This is a folktale that I'd like to share with everyone. (It was originally written by Bennett Cerf)
The three old men shared a room the nursing home. Their room had only one window, but for them it was the only link to the outside world. Ted Stark, who had been there the longest, had the bed next to the window. When Ted died, the man in the next bed,George Wayne, took his place;and the third man,Richard Reed took George's bed. Despite his sickness,George was a cheerful guy who spent his nursing home life describing the sights he could see from his bed-Sexy girls,a policeman arresting a black dude,a traffic jam,a strip club, and other scenes of life outside. Richard love to listen to George. But the more George talked about life outside, the more Richard wanted to see it himself.Yet he realized that only when George died would he have a chance. He wanted too see out that window so badly that one day he decided to kill George."That old piece of #%^& is going to be six feet under anyway soon." he told himself. "What the hell would be the damn difference?" George had a bum ticker.Ife he had an heart attack during the night and a nurse could not get to George right away,he had heart pills he could take. He kept them in a bottle on the top of the cabinet between his and Richard's bed. All ole Dick had to do was knock the pill bottle to the floor where George could not reach it. A few nights later George died just as Richard had planned he would. And the next morning Richard was moved to the bed by the window. Now he would see for himself all the things outside that George had described. After the nurses had left,Richard turned to the window and looked out. But all he could see was a regular brick wall. __________________Don't you ever laugh as the hearse goes by,For you may be the next to die.
