Okay to get this thread back on topic, I finished reading TimeRiders the other day. It was actually a really good book. There is even a sequel in the works.
The agency itself does sort of remind me of Tim's ATTA except not as well equipped. The snatching people before they die bit and the part about monitoring for time anomalies and to stop people from changing history is a lot like Tim's stories.
However that's about where the similarities end. It starts out with an agent recruiting three other ones b/c his team had been wiped out. Aparently crossing through the rift actually takes you through another dimension briefly and creatures there sometimes come through with you and that's how his team died by being killed by one.
Anyway don't want to ruin anything but the main plot is that another person from the future where earth is starving decides to go back and change it so Hitler wins WWII. This causes the Germans to take over America as well and unite the world. Which actually would've made the world better however the guy who went back in time goes crazy and decides to destroy the world after he successfully conquered. And so he ends up making the world worse than the way it had been in his own time.
Of course the TimeRiders eventually figure out a way to set things right again by the end of the book. I think the ending was rushed a bit but the overall story was really good. Theres even an advertisement in the back of the book that hints that the next story will involve dinosaurs in some form or fashion.
So that is my review of the book as it stands. I think Tim and anyone else here who enjoys time-travel stories will really like the book. __________________
