What's your opinion of X-men First Class? I'm hoping to see it tomorrow and review it. I'm actually looking forward to it a lot more than I thought I was going to. The clips look pretty good. I guess having a completely new cast and starting over again kind of threw me off. Plus one of the main reasons I like the X-men movies is to see Wolverine. I guess we'll see. I've read early reviews are mostly positive for the movie.

Was going to this with the boys on Sunday. Now it looks like whole family is going to Kung Fu Panda instead. Might not see till next weekend, but looking forward to it either way.

I think I'm going to pass on this one. I might wait for it to come on TV or something.

It opened this weekend with $56 million a little more than the very first one but not nearly as big an opening as the other sequels, and if you throw in inflation the first X-men movie beats it.
I saw it yesterday, here's my review warning it may have a couple of spoilers here and there.
************possible spoilers**************
Overall I thought it was pretty good. Good acting, great story, and it kept my interest through the whole picture. I'm not sure I can recommend it for kids though. One I'm not sure they'd enjoy it as much as the other X-men movies, and two there are at least 3 gd's, one f word, and half naked chicks that make it a movie at least for older teens and not so much the little kiddies.
I love how they weaved the story into an actual historical event the way they did. I loved all the action scenes and the humor that was thrown in here and there.
Magneto's reasoning for becoming an evil super villain is explained perfectly here in this picture. I'm not sure I've ever felt a character was almost justified in becoming the villain as Magneto was in this film. Having lived through World War II as a Jew in Nazi Germany explains a lot of Magneto's actions. Loved seeing Magneto get revenge on a few Nazis here and there.
By the end you really do hope that Magneto will stay pals with Charles X and stay on the good path, but we all know how that goes in the long run.
A lot of emotional impact. That's the best way I can describe the picture. That's the good, but it was almost ruined for me by the most hokey awkwardly delivered line of all time. When Mystique goes on twice about Mutant pride, it just sticks out like a sore thumb especially at the very end. I guess politically correct preachiness just strikes me the wrong way especially when it doesn't flow with the mood the picture is going in. It's like a note in a piece of music someone forced in.
One other thing that I questioned I'm not sure about. Not a big thing really, but I wondered about it. Did the long hair style come in to play in 1962? The Beatles were just coming out then. Seemed like a lot of the cast had long hair for that early in the 60's.
But the movie is not a waste of money for superhero movie fans. I think it would have done better at the box office if Wolverine was in the whole picture instead of just a cameo, but I can see how that might not work with what they've already shown in the other movies. __________________

Thing is I guess I'm different than most, but I liked the third one. I don't like characters getting killed off and junk like that, but it was a pretty fast paced movie. The biggest thing I hate was that I was expecting a sequel to bring back cyclops and whoever else died in that movie, and it hasn't happened yet. That bugs me. But I read people hate it, and I can't see why they think it was that bad. When I saw it in the theater nobody was booing. __________________

The action in that movie was really good, but the only thing that bothered me is them killing off Cyclops. He was my favorite X-Man and I never did like how he was portrayed in the movies. He's supposed to be a great leader and he should have been the star of those movies (and especially X-Men First Class) rather than Wolverine. Wolverine didn't join the X-Men till later and for the most part it was just Cylcops, Beast, Angel, Ice Man, and Marvel Girl (Jean Gray). The main reason I'm not seeing First Class is because its not about the first class of X-Men; only one of the original five is in the movie.

Yeah, it would be nice to have shown the original X-men as they were in the comics. __________________

I'm looking forward to Cap and Green Lantern. I think Cap's got the best storyline, but GL might have the best effects. I mean it looks like Star Wars or something. Cap's story is going to be like Rocky goes to war. It's going to be a true underdog story. I love movies like that. __________________

Trickstyx, Rick, go see the movie. Set aside any notions of it following comic continuity. The movie does set up movie continuity very well. There are a couple of hiccups but it is good.
I was remarkably surprised how much I liked it. I left the theatersatisfied and wishing they would make a sequel.
Yeah it would have been awesome to have the original first class of students but they wanted it to fit in with the four previous movies. And it does. __________________Hindsight is always 20/20...

good movie overall, but not our X-Men universe. i'm going to consider it an alternate universe--things are mostly the same, but a little different.
hugh jackmans cameo had me in stitches. __________________

Went with with my son's tonight (whole family for GLantern this weekend). Movie was awesome! Reminded me of the satisfaction after the first X-Men movie. Story was easy enough to follow and charcters were developed enough without going overboard. Favorite was Magneto. His backstory is cool. Action was good, especially towards the end in Cuba. All-in-all very worthwhile. Makes me hopeful for another.
