Westfield, Massachusetts…
John Dark would have never thought he’d find himself this far north. Exiting the bus station he looked up and could see East and Provin Mountains, said to be made of volcanic traprock. Maybe he could do a little sightseeing before he left here? And just why was the dark vigilante known as Shadow Hawk away from his city of St. Katherine’s Bay? Because crime lords s don’t always stay in the same place.
He only came across the mysterious Mr. Bigg a few weeks ago but since then he’s noticed an increase in crime. Then almost as suddenly as he appeared on the scene in SKB he left and headed here to Westfield. John still wasn’t exactly sure what the kingpin’s plan was but he definitely wanted to find out in time to put a stop to it. Only problem, no one seemed to know Mr. Bigg’s real identity which made tracking his movements that much harder.
Down the street a little girl stepped off the curb right into the path of an oncoming sedan. Before John could even react a winged crimefighter swooped down and plucked her up out of the road and set her safely down on the sidewalk on the other side. The man wore a gray and brown costume sporting an F on his chest.
“Apparently even small towns such as this have their own vigilantes” John mused thankful the other man was in time to save the child “he could be useful in my investigation. I just need to find out who he is.”
Later that evening John donned his Shadow Hawk identity and hit the streets searching for hives of criminal activity. Every thug he came across and pummeled, he asked the same question “where can I find Mr. Bigg?” Most of them couldn’t answer and he was getting frustrated until he heard the alarms triggered at a bank.
Shadow Hawk swung onto the roof using his grappler and waited for the robbers to emerge from the building. Four of them came out carrying gym bags that he assumed were full of money and each held a semiautomatic in their free hand. He fired off his hawk-stars from the launchers in his gauntlets and quickly disarmed them. Then he jumped down from the roof and extended his wrist blades.
As he confronted them he heard a swooshing noise as someone landed imperceptibly behind him “good of you to lend your assistance” Shadow Hawk said not even turning his head surprising the newcomer.
“How did you…and why do you think I’m here to help you? This is my city” the other man said.
“I saw you save a girl earlier today. You made the same sound then when you glided down. You may be able to help me. Sorry to intrude on your turf but I’m searching for somebody.”
“I am the Flying Squirrel” the other replied “if you are on the level and I can help you I will.”
The crooks looked at each other worriedly as the two costumed heroes approached them. One man took a swing at the Flying Squirrel. But the masked hero easily dodged the punch and kneed the man in the groin. Shadow Hawk pounced on two of the others ripping their bags to shreds letting the money scatter across the pavement. Then he retracted his blades and punched both of them in the face. The last thug kicked out at the Flying Squirrel but his leg was caught and the Flying Squirrel threw him into a nearby mailbox.
“The cops should be here soon to take these care of these hoodlums” Flying Squirrel said casually “so you haven’t told me who you are yet.”
“You’re right I haven’t” Shadow Hawk said launching his grappler onto a nearby building “follow me.” __________________
