That's right . Christian Bale says it's an end of an era for his Batman after Dark Knight Rises! read more below

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "The Dark Knight Rises" may be Christian Bale's final performance as crime-fighting superhero Batman, the actor told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Set for release in July, the movie is Bale's third stint as Gotham's Caped Crusader for director Christopher Nolan, after "Batman Begins" (2005) and "The Dark Knight" (200.

"I wrapped a few days ago, so that will be the last time I'm taking that cowl off," Bale told the newspaper during an interview in Beverly Hills. "I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it's all done. Everything's finished. It's me and Chris -- that will be the end of that Batman era.

The 37-year-old actor's comments, published late last week, weren't his first indication that he might have reached the end of the Batmobile ride. Bale told E! News in November one year ago that "unless Chris says different, this will be the last time I'm playing Batman."

Bale, who received an Oscar last year for his supporting who received an Oscar last year for his supporting performance in "The Fighter," next appears on the big screen in Zhang Yimou's China-set period drama "The Flowers of War." He'll also star in two films from "Tree of Life" director Terrence Malick.

Joining Bale in "The Dark Knight Rises" are Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway, as Catwoman.

Film actors who have preceded Bale in the dual role of Batman and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne, include Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney.

Anyways... no need to feel too bad about it now at least we'll still get three movies while Keaton only made two so his era was way shorter.

It isn't strange how long we have to wait for movies that last only two hours, and we got a whole era defined by Bale's Batman performances which really don't make up more than 6 hours when it's all said and done. Compare that to Adam West who did a 3 years of 30 minute episodes. I have no clue how many hours that winds up being, and that doesn't count all the voice work he did as Batman on the 77 animated series and the last couple of years on the Super Friends.

I have definitely enjoyed Bale's Batman even if his voice is a little too gravely. Wish he'd make about 5 more Batman films.

And to this day I'm still disappointed that Val Kilmer didn't make some more Batman movies. Now he'd have to go on a serious diet to get back into the Bat suit these days.

Val Kilmer could play Dark Knight Retuns Batman as he was a bit overweight since he used all the robots instead and had the female Robin running around for him

The problem is that I still think the best person to play the character is still split into different aspects:

Batman: Christian Bale or Val Kilmer (Bale did have the bonus of an ability to turn his head)
Bruce Wayne: Lewis Wilson (from the 1943 serial)
Voice: Kevin Conroy

It would have been funny to see a Batman cast like that, though, kind of like how they cast Darth Vader.  It wouldn't work, of course, but it also shows how hard it is to capture such a character.

Still, any movie Batman after Bale should take some careful consideration.  You need somebody who seems perfectly layabout and non-threatening as Bruce Wayne but absolutely terrifying as Batman.  Robin should be whimsical yet skilled in a fight (gymnastically, not in brute force, and definitely not Chris O'Donnell).  Alfred should be a prim and proper butler, more Michael Gough than Michael Caine.  And they should keep him snarky like the animated series did, because he's awesome like that.
