Superman Returns placed fourth place at the box office over the weekend, trailing the juggernaut Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and two debuting films.
Superman Returns brought in an estimated $11.6 million to push its total to $163.6 million. At this pace, the film should top out around $188 million.
As a comparison, Batman Begins ($205.3 million) pulled in $151.1 million through 19 days. However, that film had only drops of 35.9 percent, 39.7 percent and 21.7 percent in subsequent weekends.
Superman Returns had a 46.8 percent dropoff this past weekend.
Pirates took in an estimated $62.2 million over the weekend and moved past X-Men: The Last Stand as the year's top film. Pirates now has $258.5 million to X-Men's $231.8 million.
I hope this box office doesn't kill a chance for a sequel. You know what they say if at first you don't succeed try, try, again.
