A for action, A for acting, loved the scene where V gets shot up and then tells the bad guys "it's my turn" Good stuff!
F for the subtle and sometimes not so subtle political statements. The description of the power mad dictator by V as a religious conservative was definitely giving you an idea of where the makers of this flick were coming from politically.
Didn't like the whole lesbians being mistreated by the evil government controlled by the religious conservative bit either.
If you can overlook these kind of political propaganda statements and you like a good sci-fi superhero flick then this one is for you.
I tend to like stories that show us what the world might be like in the hands of a power mad dictator, but in the past such stories focused on situations a little more realistically like for instance the old Twilight Zone. One classic episode in particular I enjoy showed us a communist type world where Burgess Meredith's character outsmarts a member of the fascist party by inviting him to his own execution and basically shutting the door on him. The two have to wait for a bomb to go off. In this world the oppression is shown as the restriction of faith and reading of any book for that matter. The Bible is off limits here , but Meredith's character happily continues to read it anyway despite oppression.
The lesson here was clear as good old Rod Serling describes at the end what happens when the spirit of man is oppressed by any government or form of law.
I guess the point is that it is much more likely to find oppression against religious expression where as Vendetta seems to indicate the leader is forcing religion on people, granted it's no religion I've ever heard of. The communist of the cold war didn't encourage Bible reading neither did Hitler. In fact Hitler put himself up as a god declaring himself above Jesus.
If you give V for Vendetta the benefit of the doubt and just go with it that's fine but be warned that there might be a little more going on between the lines politically than you might be wanting to get into.
