I would love to see a re-birth of the old western/cowboy comics like the Lone Ranger, Kid Colt, Rawhide Kid just to name a few. In a certain sense cowboy heroes were some of the first and most popular heroes in our country. Ya can't get more American than a western cowboy.

They sort of ruined Rawhide Kid. Believe it or not a couple of years ago they rewrote him as a gay cowboy. That's kind of like rewriting history.
I used to read a few of the 1970's reprints of those marvel westerns. I've got the first few of the new Lone Ranger. It's pretty good, but I do have a problem with the lack of words. I can read the books in 2 minutes, while it costs like 3 bucks or so.

The fact that the Rawhide Kid was rewritten as a gay cowboy(not that there's anything wrong with that to quote Jerry Seinfeld) kind of shows me that the comics industry still doesn't quite know what to do with the cowboy hero, except something gimmicky like make him gay.

I think to make a western comic work you need impressive art that takes advantage of the amazing western backdrop, and lots of shoot em ups plus they need to be real as to the actual history of the day. Not try to make some gimmicky political statement.
Cowboys in the old days cared about one thing, surviving.
