Daredevil Love's Labors Lost vol.1 Collects issues 215-217, 220-222, 225, 228 by denny o'neil and david mazzucchelli. Plus #219 by Frank Miller and John Buscema
hands down saddest dd tpb ever! except maybe the one where elekta dies, but i haven't read that one.
ok, first story is in arizona with the whole cowboy theme and the traditional dd beats up bad guys story.
next, mediocre story about the Gael's return, dd saves glorianna o'breen in the end, happy ending.
then next issue this dude has this device that blinds u and those around you temporarily.  guest appearance by black widow who like almost everyone else in dd comics is matt's ex. gael is still chasing glorianna ob'reen, dd stops dude's master plan while saving girl, happy ending.
then comes "FOG", the turning point of the tpb, (has a special thanks to frank miller in splash page). they used this one's cover (above) for graphic novel's cover. as u can see art is influenced by miller with the blotchy fog. deaths hear and there and everywhere. murdock firm in trouble, ex girlfriend commits suicide, woman gets killed cuz dd couldnt get there, guys from italy steal heather's (suicidal girlfriend) patents from safe. most depressing comic maybe that i've ever read.
next issue, he tracks them down to italy leaving foggy alone with their building debt.  mazzucchelli's art was exceptionally awesome in this issue.  this one is more of ur traditional dd.
however, next issue, probles are still around. glorianna o'breen is on plane, where (if the dreary mood wasn't already set) a terrorist pulls a gun out. plane crashes in swamp and o'breen and evil scientist with fear gas are taken hostage by hillbilly attitide ba guys in a swamp where dd (looking for glorianna o'breen) and black widow (seeking evil scientist) team up to find them. good read, black widow is cool. art STILL rocks. happyish ending.
then issue where vulture comes in, matt & foggy's firm is closing due to unpaid rent, and dd takes it out on vulture the old fashioned way. foggy nearly commits suicide due to closing firm and wife ditching him, very depressing. great issue though, and ending where dd beats up vulture saying he'll keep fighting (life issues). i think this should've ended tpb.
next issue sees foggy take a liking to glorianna o'breen who is trying to find matt to break up wih him because he's never there.  matt takes out "the gladiator." endin leaves u hanging, this issue shouldn't have been in there.
next was issue 219, a stand alone frank miller wrote. pointless. crappy little town where matt comes in as stranger and beats up a few people never revealing name, or becoming dd. maybe it was just a redhead. anyway it was a sucky pointless issue put in so that they could put frank's name on cover. it was issue 219 but since it had no continuism they shoved it to end so as not to disrupt current story.
overall the tpb was a great read with awesome art that redefined my idea of daredevil. probly best tpb i've read from the thought bubbles era.
8.7 outof 10
covers tommorrow.

here's the covers in the order given above, but 228 must've been a typo at the site i got that picture (also above) because the cover gallery of the trade paperback had 226 and its story, no 228. my bad. enjoy the covers. i may put some panels on tomorrow if i see them online.

I've got 215, haven't read it in a long time, but it used to be one of my favorite DD stories.

the tpb was a great read, i may get it sometime. i especially liked the swamp and the vulture issues. thoght the tpb was a little unresolved in the end.

Here's my Daredevil Loves Labor Lost superheromall.com page where people can order it through Amazon and help support superherouniverse.com because I use the money for the site and to eat. Eating is important.
