Must be a generations thing. I grew up with old greenskin being dumber than a box of rocks but also being the most powerful being on the planet not counting Superman from over at DC.
Nobody but nobody had the same unique dialogue as "Hulk Smash!" "Stupid Bird Man" "Stupid Magician"
"The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets" You got to love that old stuff.
Two here comes the Hulk back to Earth and he wants revenge. The old Hulk would have been angry, but in the end just want to be left alone. You sympathized with old greenskin because in reality it wasn't him who was the really dumb one. It was everyone else for not leaving well enough alone and getting out of his way.
Now this new Hulk borderlines on evil because he knows better. He's not dumb, and yet he will probably devise an elaborate revenge plot.
Plus another thing I liked about the old Hulk, since he was more monster like, he became almost a force of nature in his unpredicatability vs a thug like mentality.
