The whole world is talking about the death of Captain America. I just came back from my local comic book shop, and everybody was going on about the death of Captain America in the latest issue # 25. 100 issues had sold out in one day, and the comic shop was selling at 5 bucks a piece.

Apparently it's in USA Today, and old Howard Stern was talking about it.

Here's some Cap death news links.
Yahoo News

USA Today

Daily News Entertainment

CNN

Fox News When I found this link it was the top front of the site as the main headline.

MSNBC.com

This makes me mad of course, but on the bright side you know Cap can't stay dead, and the publicity is obviously a great build up for a Captain America movie. Now everybody knows who Captain America is.

I saw this online,

R.I.P. Steve Rogers

Captain America, one of the most recognizable characters in Marvel Comics, was killed today.

The hero, who was created in 1941 during World War II specifically to fight Nazis, died in a dramatic episode in the pages of "Captain America" No. 25, which went on sale this afternoon.

The star-spangled character has spent the last year as leader of the underground superhero resistance opposing the government's superhero registration act, which demanded that all superheroes become part of the military establishment or face prison.

The "Civil War" story line ended last month with Captain America surrendering for the greater good. His death occurred on the courthouse steps where he was about to face charges.

The story is being reported by many major news organizations across the country.

Because of the sometimes-transitory nature of death in comics, fans are skeptical.

"Is he really dead?" asked Jim Williams, owner of Comic Heaven in Willoughby. "A lot of times people die in comic books and get better, so we'll just have to see. It's a good way to end the series."

It's not the end of the story that's for sure. I've got a subscription to Captain America, and I got a letter with issue 25 that said for the next 5 issues will be Civil War: Fallen Son and then after that Captain America continues again.

i'm stunned, i will remember the day that I finished my german work as i sat in the library  in peiod 3 and went online to see cap dead.  i don't know why i'm so shocked, but i am.  he may be hiding out with nick fury, or it was a clone, or the robots (I.M.S's i think) that SHIELD makes, like nick fury's in cpatain america #23 (probably so) and he's with nick.  it's probably a scheme to further get his point through.  i have to get that issue but I don't have a comic shop near ME!  and it's sold out online!  fortuneately a store here sells issues in a newsrack kind of way, and nobody buys them so I can get one.  problem is they come like 2 months late!!!

Dang, so you can't find it online already even on Ebay. I'm glad I got mine in a subscription. There is one small problem though it's not in mint condition. Makes me mad but a lot of times my subscription comics get slightly bent on the edges and while personally it doesn't bother me. It's still good to read, but you know nowadays comics bring big money when they are perfectly mint and graded. It's comics like the death of Cap that make me wish I had a perfect mint issue.

Check out my Cap site for spoilers and such if you can't wait to get your hands on the issue.

i know what you mean, my comics get a bit beat up on the spines too when i subscribe. and thei's the occasional dummy that ignores the DO NOT BEND on it and folds it up!  i don't use eBay, i'm not that desperate.  i'm tellin you though, keep that message that said they're donna keep the series going, i'd even frame it if it was an actual letter inside with the comic book.  and i am mad about the only comics being worth anything are the mint ones and such, i like my comics in great condition, but what good are they if you don't atleast read them?!?

i wrote the editor's on this one guys, here's my email basically restating what I summed up above.

To the guys that killed Cap, I have figured out the truth.  WARNING CAP FANS: spoilers in next sentence.  Cap is really hiding out with Nick Fury right now.  I haven't read the issue (#25) yet, but from 23 and 24 it seems obvious.  In issue 23, Bucky gets attacked by the SHIELD robot Fury, and the real Nick Fury put a little too much emphasis into describing the new robots.  "The new ones are so advanced they move like me, and may even think they're me."  Or something along those lines.  Then Nick helps out Cap again in issue 24.  Cap would never surrender before dying, and this has been reinforced several times throughout civil war tie-ins and such.  He obviously wants to REALLY get his message through by his supposed death, to make people really think, "was it worth it?"  For all we know, he could've told Bucky to shoot the fake him!  I suppose the upcoming auptopsy may prove otherwise though...do those SHIELD robots have organs too?!?  Maybe you did actually kill the real Cap though, maybe to get free publicity and Captain America hype up for a possible 2009 Cap movie, AND you're selling out issues.  However, if he's dead for real, I think we're all a bit tired of the run of the mill ressurrection story.  You brought back Bucky, you made your career off reviving, but don't over do it.  With great power comes great responsibility, and you need to maintain the balance between killing heroes for a temporary boost on Marvel Hype and sales, and being loyal to fans.

Sounds about right, I didn't like Superman's cheating of death explanation. Making a character actually die and come back makes them sound like their God or something.

Plus it's totally unrealistic. I still haven't really wrapped my mind around DC's Superman explanation. It was almost like they just kept going and going with the story until you just gave up and accept that he's back.

I'm not sure how did they bring Bucky back anyway?

me neither.

My tribute to Cap - http://superherouniverse.com/art/data/527/captainamericadeath.jpg
I started with the cover of Captain America #113, and I used Poser figures set to toon mode to add characters including Time-Rider and Lectrohm.

my advice to make it more unique, make one with onlly superherouniverse.com characters, to really give it the site's touch.  and punisher would never do that next to cap's grave.  but other than that, it's awesome, nice cover find and blend with the characters.  nice touch changing the date to 2007 too.

Don't have enough characters out there yet to do one with just superherouniverse characters, but that will change shortly. I've got a whole supergroup I'm working on for a fute online issue.

I thought the Punisher might do something like that because he's so emotionally attached to Cap. In the Civil War he seemed to worship the man plus everybody else was doing the head down somber look.

i don't think he was admiring cap, i think he was inches away from killing him.  but...whatever.

Well one of the civil war issues i read had Cap about beat the crap out of the Punisher and he didn't fight back like he had too much respect for him or something.
Posted:  23 Mar 2007 21:46
yeah, but punisher did support the cause and knows cap is the best one to lead the resistence.  i grabbed the third issue for a quick look and liked the line where they asked punisher if he was okay, and he said "he knows i won"

I've got to reread the whole thing, but you know it's almost emotionally draining. I think the Civil War is almost just too serious. It's downright depressing.

See the punisher looks up to Cap, now he's wearing his mask.

Trust me I know what I'm doing.

- quote from Sledge Hammer

Seriously Punisher is a big fan of Cap's, I know what I'm saying.
