RoL welcomes a new hero!

Chapter 8; Pyro-essence

At the station, Mike has been on call waiting for something to happen for quite a while. His shift ends and he settles on a pizzeria at the corner of the street for lunch. As he walks down there, he notices a girl about the same age and height as him with long fiery red hair walk in before him. 'Whoa' he says under his breath, 'There's something you don't see everyday'. He orders a couple of pizzas to fill his super metabolism and sits down 2 tables away from the red headed girl. He senses something is wrong and looks out side, everything looks normal for a second then glass window of the pizzeria begins to get covered by fast growing vines. The red haired gets up and takes of her coat revealing suit similar to his only with a reddish tint and no arms sleeves, she faces the windows and holds out her hands in red gloves; very stealthily, she puts on a read mask like his. 'No way' Mike mutters as he realizes what she is going to do. Smoke begins to steam from her hands, her hands then catch on fire, people around her are stunned, as she blasts the door with fire as if her hands were a flamethrower. Mike takes the chance to back into the bathroom and instantly changes into Lectrohm. He flies back into the main room and launches an energy beam at the vines.
Ohm: Haven't seen you around here before.
Pyra: Just moved here, name's Pyra.
Ohm: I'm--
Pyra: Lectrohm, I read the papers you know.
Ohm: I see. (Pyra begins to smoke)
Pyra: Protect the people; I'm going to burn right through this stuff.
Ohm: I'm not taking orders. (Ohm says as his beam diminishes and he puts an electrical energy shield around all of the people in the room)
Pyra ignites and her entire body bursts into flames as she sears right through the glass and metal and through the vines. She breaks through and falls to one knee, Ohm lowers the shield, and runs to her.
Ohm: Are you ok?
Pyra: Yeah, never gone that hot before.
Ohm: Stay here and rest, I'm going out to see what caused that.
Ohm flies out and immediately stops as he sees the entire street covered in vines some as think as he is tall. He shoots upwards to find the source but when he gets close to getting to the top of the buildings, a thick vine comes off the side and whips him straight back down into the ground. Pyra flies out of the pizzeria and burns the vine that hit Ohm, then she flies to him.
Pyra: You ok?
Ohm: Switching positions now huh? (He shakes his head) Yeah, just took me by surprise.
Potentia: Well well, I knew there was one superpower in this city but not 2. (A blonde short haired girl with green tinted skin rides on a giant Venus fly trap over one of the buildings in front of the two) This should be fun, allow me to introduce myself. They call me Potentia. You must be the great Lectohm, hmph, I excepted you to be taller.
Ohm: Why don't you get off your fly-trap and say that to my face.
Potentia: As you wish. (A series of vines growing huge leaves grow out of the fly trap like stairs to the ground, she leaps on each on all the way down)
Pyra: Not so high and mighty now, are you?
Potentia: Oh contraire, I'm not the one you should be worried about.
Ohm senses 2 other fly-traps sneaking up behind them and striking. 'Pyra behind you!' Ohm yells without even moving his eyes off Potentia. Pyra turns around and fires a stream of heat at one of the traps incinerating it. The other comes in close at Ohm, Ohm focuses pure electricity into a oval shape around his body and expands it. Lighting crackels all around him and as soon as the fly-trap touches the field of electricity, it catches fire and slowly burns. All the while Ohm never turns around or moves his eyes.
Potentia: Damn you... (She says while stepping back)
Ohm: We can do this the easy way or the hard way.
Potentia turns around and runs a few steps before jumping on the back of the last fly-trap and slithering off.
Pyra: If you're not going to stop that witch then I wi--
Ohm extends his arm out in front of her and shakes his head. 'Wait for it' he says calmly. A few seconds go by as Potentia is almost out of sight, Ohm then fires a beam of energy opening a hole on the side of a water tank standing atop of a building. The water rushes out knocking over the fly-trap and Potentia. Drenched, they look up to see Ohm speed over to them with Pyra following. Ohm holds up one finger and places in the water, releasing a small amount of electricity that's amplified by the water shocking Potentia into unconsciousness and killing the fly-trap. Then as fast as they grew, the vines all over the buildings begin disintegrate.
Pyra: Wow, that was good. (Ohm smiles then looks at her)
Ohm: I never got a chance to ask you, what side are you on?
Pyra: Isn't it obvious? (She says with a smirk, Ohm doesn't sense her lying)
Ohm: Thought so. (He pulls out a small device in the shape of a lighting bolt and hands it to her) Here I made a few of these just incase I met others with powers. Maybe when I find enough people, we can start a club or a league or something.
Pyra: (Laughing) You're really serious about that?
Ohm: Yeah, (He says with all sincerity) why not? In the mean time, hold on to this and if you get into any trouble press the button on top and I'll sense it.
Pyra: You are, full of surprises. (Police cars start to rush in on scene)
Ohm: (Looking at the cars) There's our que.
Ohm speeds off out of sight of Pyra and heads behind the back of the pizzeria coming out as Mike just in time to see Pyra fly off a couple blocks down. 'Interesting' Mike thinks to himself as he jogs down the street to help the other cops.
Officer: What happened here Mike? Another superhero smackdown?
Mike: Probably, I was at the pizzeria at the time when Lectohm and this fire girl came out of no where and blasted through the window. A few minutes later we walked out side in just enough time to see the vines that covered the buildings disintegrate.
Officer: (Looking at the damaged water tower and crushed building tops) I wish these freaks would leave us alone. They're causing more damage then they're trying to protect in this city, you need a lift?
Mike: ...No, I've got a car around the corner.
Mike takes the officers words into thought for a few seconds before helping the officer cuff Potentia and put her into the back of the police car. As they drive away Mike asks himself is he going to cause more damage trying to protect the people of this city then the villans are going to cause. Mike suddenly remembers Stan Lee's last words to him and he realizes that what he's doing is better than the alternative.
