Chapter 17; Others
------------------------------
The smell of dinner flows through Mike's apartment, next to his dinner, Mike is looking over the paper. There are only a few interesting articles on the first couple of pages, Pyra breaking up a robbery, information about Hasch Ind., all seems normal. Mike flips to the next page, and his face turns into a mixed expression of realization and horror. An aerial photo shows a symbol burnt into the ground by what witness' can only describe as an "...oddly discolored lighting storm." Underneath the picture it says a few bodies were found around the site, only 2 survived and are currently being treated at the local hospital in Sheridan, Wyoming. Although not the same symbol as the one Mike remembers being in, it oddly resembles it, including the way the body appears in the diamond. He decides to check it out and in a few seconds is in the air as Ohm flying west into Sheridan. Wind rushes past Ohm's face as cities wiz by below him, a sudden gust of wind slows Ohm down but doesn't stop him. Another gust of wind, much stronger than before, collides with Ohm and almost knocks him right out of the sky. 'Whoa, what was that?' Ohm says as he catches his balance high above the ground, he continues on slowly then gradually gains more speed. Ohm soon arrives at the hospital; many of the people are surprised to seem him.
Ohm: (Quickly hovering up to, and landing at the front desk) The two patients in the lightning storm incident, which rooms are they in?
Receptionist: Oh, um let me check...both of them are on the 8th floor, rooms 803 and 804.
Ohm: Thanks! (He speeds up to the 8th floor, entering 803 first, the doctor is already in their looking at a clipboard.) Doctor? I have a few questions about this patient and the one in the next room.
Doctor: Lectrohm? Wow, it's an honor to meet you--Oh, sure, what do you need?
Ohm: Please call me Ohm; first off, I would like to make myself clear in that everything we talk about has to be confidential.
Doctor: Of course, I understand.
Ohm: Alright, which one of these patients was found in the diamond-like part of the symbol, the one burned into the ground?
Doctor: That would be the girl in the next room.
Ohm: Then I need to talk to you about her, but first, where was this person?
Doctor: This boy was about a good distance away, about 50 yards. He should be fine in a couple of days, no abnormalities as far as I can see.
Ohm: That's good. (They walk out of that room and are about to head into 804 when The Doctor stops Ohm)
Doctor: Before we go in there's a few things I think you should know about this girl. (He hands Ohm 2 pictures) This is her before the incident, note that she's dark haired, a little scrawny, but other then that she looks like a normal girl right? Well she's 19 in this picture about a year ago, the difference will--well just brace yourself. (Ohm looks at the second picture with awe) And this is the symbol she was found in.
The Doctor and Ohm walk into the room where the girl is sitting, watching the news, Ohm gasps in amazement. The scrawny girl in the photo now looked physically fit almost to a perfection, her hair had turned snow white, and her skin was a normal tanish color rather than the paleness of that shown in the photo. The girl turns to see Ohm.
Doctor: Ohm? This is Alexa Košava.
Alexa: Oh my gosh, Lectrohm? (She says in a Native American accent) I just had an odd dream about you--can you explain what happened to me? (She says in more of an excited than sad voice)
Ohm: Well, I sure hope so. Who else knows about this--little transformation you've gone under?
Alexa: Um...my sister, who brought me to the hospital, and the doctor. I haven't told my foster parents yet, in fact the doctor was just about too. (The Doctor nods in agreement)
Ohm: No one else knows? No reporters or government officials?
Alexa: No, no one--why do you ask?
Ohm: (After a moment of thoughtful thinking) Doctor? Thank you for everything. Will she be ready to leave soon?
Doctor: She looks completely normal and in perfect health, which I don't understand, being that she was struck by lighting.
Ohm: Taking that part out of the equation, when would you allow her to leave?
Doctor: Well I guess--tomorrow. What are you getting at? (He asks inquisitively)
Ohm: (Sighing) Listen, I realize I'm being very anxious right now, I apologize. But this event along with others I've...encountered, have led me to realize that there is more going on here then meets the eye. Will you entrust her to me for one day, say tomorrow? Of course the decision is ultimately hers, but I'd like to talk to her and her family alone tonight.
Doctor: Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't allow this. But you have done a great good for this country, and these technically are not normal circumstances...It is ok with me. Alexa, I'll call your sister, and your parents to come over tonight.
Alexa: Alright, Ohm? There's nothing bad going to happen right?
Ohm: Nothing bad will happen because of the change...The symbol on the other hand, I have a feeling that's--another matter. __________________
