Chapter 18; Gusts
------------------------------
Ohm is sitting in the waiting room, nurses walk about, occasionally throwing a glance at him. To busy to notice, Ohm's mind is on other things, such as the reports of weird lightning, the symbol, and how they connect to Alexa--and himself. Images of his encounter years ago flow through his mind, is it coincidence? Is there a common link? How many "Super" storms are going to come around changing people like this? A nurse walks out of the room and calls Ohm shaking him out of his daydream. Ohm walks in to see Alexa's parents and her sister sitting around the bed talking, Ohm's entrance ends the conversation.
Doctor: Ah, here he is. Ohm? This is Mr. and Mrs. Košava.
Mr. Košava: It's an honor to meet you Ohm. (He says a little shuddered, the Doctor leaves) Can you please tell us what has happened to Alexa?
Ohm: (Making sure there are no hidden devices, he says in a scientific manner) Well I think I'll start at the beginning. When I was a child, a storm hit in my hometown. Afterwards I never felt the same, and I would never understand why until a couple years later when my powers had emerged. This storm that Alexa was in was described by witnesses, and these witnesses described what I had been subjected to years prior--
Alexa's Sister: Are you saying that Alexa has superpowers?
Ohm: Possibly, but I can't be sure unless I test her. I also can't be sure if she is a danger to herself and everyone around her or not. Which is where you as the parents come in. Is it ok for me to take her to back to a very trustworthy friend of mine in New York who can help diagnose her new--attributes? The final decision of course rests with her, but I though it might be a good idea to tell you, as the parents as well.
Mrs. Košava: (looks at her husband, then back at Ohm) I guess it is ok with us, as long as you keep us updated, and she isn't being endangered in anyway. (She turns to Alexa) Do you want to go through with this?
Alexa: Yes, I have a feeling Ohm knows what he's talking about, I'll go.
Ohm: Alright then, I'll let you all be for now, we'll leave tomorrow morning.
Ohm walks out of the room and up to the roof; he takes off and arrives back in New York within the hour. Ohm flies into his apartment and changes out of costume. Mike then heads down to the station where his nightshift is starting. Aside from one disturbance through the night, all is quiet in his sector. Mike gets back to the station, some of the other officers are watching T.V. 'What the hell?' he overhears one of the officers say. Mike walks up to the group watching the set and his eyes open in awe at what he sees.
- Lakes: ...Thank you Karina. For those of you just tuning in, we have been getting reports of multiple weather anomalies that have to do with the wind all over the country, from tornados to dust storms to funnel like phenomena's never before seen by man. Scientists are still debating what to call these upside down tornados...I've just been given a bulletin that things have died down almost instantly out there. As soon as we have more information we here at the station will let you know. I'm Trianna Lakes, thank you for watching.
Officer: That's some pretty crazy weather out there.
Mike: You can say that again, I'm off for the night.
Officers: Later man. Night Mike. See ya' Sat.
Mike sets off back to his apartment and falls asleep. He wakes up to his alarm and as he changes he senses something is amiss. Walking over to the paper he was reading earlier, the half dressed Ohm looks at the article about the symbol. 'Oh no...' he gasps as he reads the lines below it, "Similar events have been occurring world wide." Possible scenarios rush through Mike's head as he realizes that this is just the beginning. Looking at his clock, he quickly finishes getting ready and flies off back towards Sheridan. He arrives in front of the hospital where Alexa is waiting for him.
Alexa: Hi Ohm! (She looks at her luggage) How is this going to work?
Ohm: Haha. (Ohm smiles and creates an energy bubble around Alexa and her stuff) Hang on for the take off. (Ohm Flies up wards with bubble and gradually gains speed) Tell me, you said you had a dream about me before I arrived, what was it about?
Alexa: Oh, well you were flying and all of the sudden you encountered a light wind, then a huge strong gust of wind minutes later knocking you almost out of the sky. (Ohm stops in mid-air almost instantly, almost throwing Alexa into the side of the bubble) Ohm? What is it? What's the matter?
Ohm: What you just described to me actually happened on my way over here for the first time.
Alexa: It did?
Ohm: And now I think I know what caused it.
Ohm and Alexa continue their journey back to New York. As Ohm nears the city he calls up Lee to tell him that he found another powered individual. Lee says to take her to the same place where he took Will. 'Roger that.' Ohm replies as he soars through the winding sky scrapers of the Big Apple. Landing behind the house, Ohm sets Alexa down on the platform, and he hovers down next to her. The ground shakes for a second then lowers as the elevator takes them to Lee's underground room.
Stan: Welcome Alexa! Nice to meet you. (She says while shaking her hand)
Alexa: Good to meet you too. Stan Lee? (She says to Ohm)
Ohm: (Shrugging and smiling) Who better to talk to for superhero advice than a professional?
Alexa: Good point.
Stan: Shall we get started?
Alexa walks down to the domed area while Ohm and Lee head up to the safety room. Looking around Alexa looks more inquisitive than nervous. Meanwhile Ohm is still busy thinking about the different symbols that have been popping up around the world. Lee's voice shakes ohm out of it.
Stan: What did you say you think her powers were?
Ohm: Oh, I think she has control over wind, consciously--and unconsciously.
Stan: Ah, I see. Ok then. Ms. Alexa? Can you hear me ok? (He says over the loud speaker)
Alexa: Yes, I can hear you.
Stan: Ohm seems to think you have control over the wind. Have you also felt this at any point?
Alexa: Actually out of all the elements, wind is my favorite and ever since the accident I've felt very strongly bonded to it.
Stan: Well then I guess that settles that. (A hole opens in the floor in front of Alexa, and a 1,000 lb weight surfaces.) Focus on the weight Alexa, concentrate on your powers.
Closing her eyes, Alexa concentrates and tenses up quite a bit, nothing happens. 'Relax, let it flow through you.' Lee notions. Calming down a bit Alexa loosens and focuses on her objective, the electronic anemometer on Lee's computer begins to fluctuate. 10...20...50 miles per hour wind circulates throughout the room. Alexa tenses a little bit and begins to levitate above the dome, 70...90...120 mph, and rising. 'Concentrate on the weight!' Ohm shouts.
She opens her eyes suddenly with a fierce look and the weight begins to shake and floats upwards. 'Amazing' Lee whispers, 150...180...210. Sirens begin to go off in the room begins to crack here and there. The weight sky rockets thorough the roof of the dome.
Ohm: Alexa! __________________
