Meanwhile...

Chapter 32; Storm

'For the few who have seen Earth from a distance, say the moon, or an orbiting satellite know how beautiful she is. What's more amazing is what we are doing to the planet, all this pollution, nuclear weaponry, toxins--the human race does not deserve to have the responsibility of this planet. If we want a peaceful, fresh, healthy environment, we need to act now. Therefore I believe I'm the right person for this job.' Alexa looks at herself in the mirror holding on to the note cards, today's the day and nothing is going to get in her way. She puts the cards in the pocket of her suit, grabs her bag and heads out the door. Graduating college just weeks after the alien battle, Alexa looks for a job in the local environmentalist department. She arrives at the front door and heads in with courage and a little nervousness. People bustle in and out of the doors and walk through different hallways. Alexa turns left and enters the elevator, 1st floor, 6th, 14th, 23rd; she gets out and heads to where she's directed on the slip of paper. Opening the door, she looks at the board members sitting at the table.
Board Head: Welcome Ms. Košava, right on time. Are you ready?
Alexa: As ready as I'll ever be.
She walks in and closes the door behind with a sign saying "Environmental Government Relations". Hours later Alexa arrives at home, she throws her stuff on her bed and sighs. Turning around, Alexa shoots a small stream of air to turn on the TV, nothing new. As she is about to turn off the TV a news report comes on with what seems like a normal storm report. Alexa sits up as the reporter ices over almost instantly. 'What the...' she utters, the camera man turns the camera around and in the last seconds of footage she sees clouds spewing out snow in outskirts of her hometown; the camera then freezes, and the feed is cut.
Alexa: Snow? In June? I better get over there--
Silhouetted man: Beware. (She turns around startled.) This fight will determine whether or not you are mentally ready.
Alexa: (The wind picks up around Alexa) Who are you.
Silhouetted man: A friend.
He steps back into the shadows and disappears, Alexa follows around the corner to look for but to no prevail. Keeping his words in mind, she quickly changes into her suit and flies east to see about the snowy situation. As she flies she begins to slow, then stops in mid air realizing just how cold it is outside. 'What's the deal, is this another weird weather anomaly?'. She continues flying east as it begins to snow. She slows see the "mouth" of the storm with a figure flying in front. As she draws closer, she sees a long blonde haired girl in a sky-blue jumpsuit, with a white snow coat wrapped around her.

Anemoi: Are you creating this storm?
Girl: ...
Anemoi: (Shivering) You have to stop, if it gets any colder, people are going to die!
Girl: That's the plan.
Anemoi: What?
Girl: Have you seen the world lately? People worried about petty little things, scurrying about as if they own the place. They're not even noticing the harm they're doing to the planet that gives them life; they are poison on the world.
Anemoi: (The wind once again picks up around Alexa) Who are you? What are you talking about?
Glaciara: My name is Glaciara. Remember when the world was in its coldest days? Days which you call the Ice age?
Anemoi: I wasn't exactly alive then...
Glaciara: Well I was. An object from space came crashing to Earth containing something extraordinary inside; it transformed much of the snow over this area into a creature which steadily evolved without ever having to die. I am the result. (Anemoi listens curiously) The "Ice Age" as you call it was such a peaceful time, covered by snow the entire Earth was muffled into a tranquil silence. Now, human kind has corrupted that utopia, I am Gaia's solider, I will protect her, and my first order of business is the destruction of the Human race.
Anemoi: As much as I agree with you on the issue of humans destroying Earth, I believe you cand talk with us and come to a mutual agreement in which we can coexist in peace. Destruction doesn't have to be the only way!
Glaciara: Humans lie and cheat, they are not to be trusted, be gone.
Glaciara turns to face Anemoi showing her wide pale blue eyes without pupils. As she turns Glaciara launches a ball of thick ice straight at Anemoi knocking her out of the sky. As Anemoi falls, Glaciara turns around holding out her hands towards the clouds and concentrates the clouds begin to shake and expand once again. Anemoi shakes her head and catches her self just feet from the Earth. 'I am going to protect the Earth my way.' She rockets back up at Glaciara whipping out a gust of air and launching it at her. She turns around just in time to create a shield of Ice to block the air.
Glaciara melts the ice instantly, 'Is that all you've got? A little wind?' she says as she flies upwards. Anemoi flies up after her and the two weave around each other as they speed into the atmosphere. In synch, they stop at the same time and face each other. Anemoi blasts super condensed balls of air at Glaciara who freezes the air with sub-zero temperatures. Anemoi darts underneath and spins her body creating a tornado. Glaciara is struck by surprise and is tossed around inside the tornado. Anemoi takes advantage of this and takes each shot she can in at Glaciara. Glaciara is able to regain her balance and forms a spiky ball of ice around her body disabling Anemoi's tornado. She hovers overhead as the ball melts and Glaciara comes out bruised and tired.
Glaciara: Your meddling will cost this planet its life.
Anemoi: Our goals are the same... but your methods stinks.
With that, Anemoi fires a concussive blast of air at Glaciara knocking her out cold. She swoops down and catches her and leads her back to the police station. There, she calls up Stan on his private phone and tells him the situation. 'Hmm... try keeping her in some sort of heated environment, that could possibly negate her powers.' Alexa agrees and thanks Stan as she hangs up the phone. Walking back into the station she tells the Police Captain about the heat and he agrees to do just that. Anemoi walks out the door and flies out back home.

If you hadn't already guessed, I was watching The Day After Tomorrow right before I wrote this chapter.  Keep Glaciara in mind, she becomes important later on...
