Editorial Reviews:

On the Earth of Heroes Reborn, Steve Rogers seems to have found the life of his dreams, but it's up to Nick Fury and the Falcon to awaken him to his role of Captain America! It's new origins for old enemies when Cap faces even darker versions of the Red Skull and the Sons of the Serpent! Also starring Rikki "Bucky" Barnes, later seen in Thunderbolts! Collects Captain America (Vol. 2) #1-12

Summary: Heroes Reborn: Captain America
Comment: I suppose the concept of a reboot was overdue at the point in time in Marvel continuity and the idea of playing or retooling with such a great character had room to be played around with. Marvel does it here, well before the Ultimate lines made their appearence, but instead this is done with the main continuity. So all of the great team (Mark Waid and Ron Garney) tossed off the title at the time for this particular run.

I loved this particular run back in the day since it introduced a new approach to Captain America's origin, but at the same time sticks true to certain forms and elements of the series. The biggest problem comes with the inconsistency of the writing since the writing team and art team was replaced mid-way through the run and it all culminates back to the mainstream continuity in HEROES REBORN: THE RETURN, which ironically hasn't been published in Trades format.

Comment: In the mid-90's, Marvel decided to conclude their much maligned Onslaught storyline with the deaths of many of their top tier heroes. The Fantastic Four, Captain America, Iron Man, and the rest of the Avengers, all bought the big one as their respective titles were canned and re-launched with a new direction (allegedly) as Marvel teamed up with Wildstorm (before they became part of DC) to produce some new takes on old stories. Rob Liefeld, the man who can be blamed for the ultra muscled heroes and ungodly unproportionate women in comics throughout the late 80's and 90's, is responsible for a nice chunk of the art found in Heroes Reborn: Captain America; which also features fan favorite Jeph Loeb and Chuck Dixon on board as writers too. There's some nice ideas thrown around here and there, including a bit of a new take on the tired battles between Captain America and the Red Skull, but it's nothing really that hasn't been done before. Not to mention that Liefeld's replacing of the A on Cap's mask with the Heroes Reborn eagle is kind of, well, blasphemous. The book is a bit inconsistent as well, but that's because there's some parts that coincide with what's found in the Heroes Reborn: Avengers TPB. There's nothing really spectacular here, but besides Liefeld's art, there's nothing really too bad about it either. There's much better Cap stories out there that are more worth your time, so unless you are a Captain America enthusiast, this chapter in the Heroes Reborn saga can be left on the shelf.

Summary: Rob liefeld's version of Captain America!
Comment: This is Rob Liefeld's version of Captain America! Captain America does not have the "A"on his forehead. Instead Cap has the Heroes Reborn "eagle" that most people did not like or care. I think this book show's one of Rob Liefeld's best artwork! You can tell rob liefeld put a-lot heart and soul into doing his 6 issue-run of the Heroes Reborn Captain America! After his run, Jim Lee and his Wildstorm studio's finish the last 6 issues. Rob Liefeld and Jeph Leob are good creative team, but It's not the same as the Mark Waid and Ron Garney run.
