The Book of Revelation, also called the Revelation of St. John, the Apocalypse of John, and the Revelation of Jesus Christ, is the last book of the New Testament. It may be shortened to Revelation but never Revelations. It is the only book in the Canon that is wholly composed of apocalyptic literature.
The book is addressed by 'John, to the seven churches in the province of Asia.
These events are foreseen: the Great Tribulation, the campaign of Armageddon, the second coming of the Messiah with the restoration of peace to the world and his 1,000 year reign, the imprisonment of Satan (portrayed as a dragon) until he is 'loosed' for the final rebellion, God's final judgment over Satan, the Great White throne of judgment, and the ushering in of the New Heavens and New Earth.
The First 3 Verses
- RE 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
- RE 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
- RE 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
