Samurai Surfer is a character associated with Time-Rider created by Tim Frady. He's Time-Rider aka John Martin's life long pal Jake from back in the hills of Shadowtown, Tn.
History
Jake was on board the U.S.S. Eldridge during the time jump which sent him and John Martin through different paths back through time. While Time-Rider seemed limited to only time travel it seems as though the Samurai Surfer was traveling through alternate dimensions as well. In Time-Rider issue 9 he landed on world where South was ruled by aliens that hunted humans for use as slaves. By the end of volume one's run Jake had went from hero to double agent for the evil alien Osirex thanks to manipulation of past events by Osirex. The Time-Rider was able to take Jake back to the beginning of their initial leap through time effectively saving Jake, but also wiping away his history as the Samurai Surfer. It's not clear as to when or if the Samurai Surfer will return and what the new version may appear as.
Also Jake seems to have picked up styles that resemble more of those from the 70's and 80's which greatly contrast from his 1930's-40's roots.
Powers and Equipment
The Samurai Surfer is an martial arts expert who flew with the aid of an advanced technological super sonic surf board.
