The actor entered ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ on crutches, with cuts and stitches on his face, remaining in the act for the first half of the interview.
Nobody star Bob Odenkirk appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, but not quite as himself.
The actor came out on crutches and with bloody cuts and stitches on his face. “Did you see the movie?” he asked host Jimmy Kimmel … “Well, I got knocked around.” In character, Odenkirk went through the injuries he endured in the film: broken bones, concussion, he lost his pelvis, kidney out, couple teeth … “Yeah, Jimmy. It was real hard.” He went on to say, “I did my own fighting. That’s the way, right?”
Kimmel explained that some actors choose professional stunt men, which was an unfamiliar idea to Odenkirk, who remained in the act. “I don’t believe in that CGI crap,” he said as Kimmel pushed the idea that he didn’t have to get so knocked around. In character, the emotion of his “injuries” were getting to him. “I’m sorry to laugh while you’re pretend crying…” said Kimmel.
Odenkirk dropped the bit half way through and garnered a huge applause from the audience. Talking about Nobody in a more serious way, Odenkirk explored the idea of a regular dad getting embroiled in an action story. The film is directed by Ilya Naishuller, who is known for Hardcore Henry.
Odenkirk trained for two and a half years for the role. “It takes so long for a movie to be made in Hollywood, you can become anything by the time it’s made …” he joked.
Of the whole experience, the actor said, “It was the bloodiest, most violent film made with the most love ever.” Nobody also stars Connie Nielsen and Christopher Lloyd.
The film was finished right before the pandemic hit. At home with his family, Odenkirk did projects such as re-writing a series of poems he penned when his kids were younger. “We made good use of our pandemic time,” the actor said. “It got a little long at the end … “
Touching upon Better Call Saul, Odenkirk said he has not been informed of the fate of his character. “It’s perfectly fine with me,” he said of the mystery. “I prefer to be surprised.”
