The worst thing about lockdown has been not being able to visit my beloved Barcelona. I miss it all: the beaches, the crazy random moments, the vino, the fiestas!
The best thing about lockdown life, however, has been having time to go back through content I never published. Going through my archives, I found thousands of photos I never shared – the best of which I have put together in a gallery on my blog here.
I also found folders packed with old video footage that I shot over a period of about three years, from 2017 to 2019. It’s incredible looking back on it all – like travelling back in time to the free and spirited pre-Covid times that we all took for granted!
I never did anything with the footage because, frankly, I didn’t have the video editing skills. But that’s something I’ve been working on over the last couple of years (especially in lockdown), and I’m excited to share that I’ve produced a short film!
It starts in Eixample, first thing in the morning, the skyline slowly coming to life. Then, it moves through the city and out onto the Mediterranean Sea, before the finale erupts with the explosive celebrations of La Merce on Via Laietana.
Watching the film, it feels sort of like a single day – a “day in the life”. But it encapsulates so much more than that. It was shot over three happy years while I lived in the city, and somehow encapsulates my entire life there.
I can’t wait to get back to visit, and for life to return to normal for everyone in the Catalan capital. But until then, at least we have our memories to comfort us and take us back.
So here it is, amigos – Barcelona. A Day. A Life. Enjoy!
